After finally choosing what to buy for monopod and tripod, just for fun I entered in Google the name of my old tripod whose head broke earlier this year. And curiously, I found it. Maybe not exactly it, but close. Actually I think mine is fake, because the box said "made in Japam" but after over 25 years of use, who cares?

i still remember those days with wooden badminton, tennis racquets...

Funny because that vintage tripod link shows a photo of a design that I recognize. Someone gave me a tripod like that back in the 70s. I remember the foot getting stuck in the mud and losing the rubber end. Oh wait, the clamps are newer, mine has threaded locks on the legs. That one must be much newer, like the 80s. ;D The brand on it shouldn't matter because I suspect they are private label MIJ units that were sold to anyone who wanted to have their own brand of tripod. Just pay for the nameplate and there you are.
If your original question was replacing the head, you can find them at any good photo shop, if the top of yours is standard. If it's a specific design, not standard threading, or mounted on the pipe, you may want to invest in something a little better anyway.
I know, I get sticker shock when I look at tripods, and have about a half dozen crummy ones, that I use for holding umbrellas, flashes and lights. I still need one really good solid one some day, but since I shoot on the move and with a monopod, so far I've escaped the inevitable necessary, good solid tripod. Indoors I have one that's big, heavy and strong, mostly held together with duct tape, and the legs are pretty much one height, because all the clamps have snapped. Great buy at a rummage sale for $5. ;)

Race, I am not trying to fix it, if it was possible (the head was mounted on the central bar).
mtkang, wooden tripods? That was really beyond my time. I did know wood tennis rackets, though mine was metal when I learnt tennis (also more than 25 years ago ::) )

i didn't see a wooden tripod yet, but i guess many people had seen in movie that those camera that you have to hide your head under a cloth and fire a small 'explosion' for flash :) that's always with wooden tripod i guess.
by the way, i think tripod is a must earlier day photography since the iso like iso25.. nowaday many people only use tripod at night..
