I am thinking of getting my first personal website done but I have no clue at all how these things work. So I know first I need to buy a domain name so any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated same goes for hosting services too.
I found go  daddy.com  to buy  domain ,would you recommend it?

Thank you very much in advance.

ive had good experience with

namecheap

the name sounds like it is some sort of spam site :) but i have bought lots of domains with them and they work well.  The user interface is pretty good and you get lots of control over the domain.

I agree with the Dynadot choice.    Very reliable (Zymmetrical.com is with them).     More of a mom n' pop operation, so you never end up at some offshore call center if you need help.

Check your hosting provider (if you already have one) - most of them have their own registration (with sometimes good discounts).
I use 1and1, their prices beat godaddy's ones, with additional benefits  like possibility of anonymous registry and automatic renewals
(will be more than happy to give a referral link to anybody who wants to subscribe :) )

If you don't have a place to host your site yet, you might want to check Hostpapa.ca. They can host unlimited size and unlimited traffic and they register one name for free for life. Got the name of this provider from kosmikkreeper and it seems a very nice place. I will probably move my site there this fall. They also host wordpress and other blog services.

I use a combination of GoDaddy and WordPress ... and a friend who designs websites.  You can see the results at:

Less than ten dollars a year.  My web developer friend can be linked to at the bottom of the home page.

I'm sure there are many good places, but I can personally recommend godaddy.com.  I've bought several domains through them and I have a couple of sites hosted with them.  Their customer support is very good and very quick - at least this has been my experience with them.

I don't really care for their site though.  There's so much content on the home page that it's often difficult to navigate.

I use godaddy.com for several domains, emails, and a website. Cheap and reliable. No complaints.

I  just bought some domains from namecheap.com  I first tried godaddy but the whole process was far too complicated.

Thank you very much to all of you for your help.
