I thought this was interesting- put out today by our senior management on the do's and do not's when creating websites-

One common misconception is that if an image does not have a "@copy;" Copyright notice on it, it's okay to use that image. That is incorrect. Finding images on Google (or elsewhere) and putting them on your website is very bad practice, and illegal in many cases. As stewards of the public trust, the burden is on you, the website creator, to respect the law. What follows is a list of images you can use, and images you can not use:

Do use:
Use images you create on your own, or that are created by the Region 10 Communications department.

Use images that are owned by GSA or other regions.

Use images properly acquired through a free or paid "Clip-art" service.

Never use:
Never use images acquired through a Google search, unless you have specific, written permission from the image owner.

Never use images found on another website unless you have permission, or are sure that they are copyright free.

I tend to think a lot of these "free clip art" sites are doing it with stolen images just to get traffic on their site.

Yeah, I was thinking that one would be better if it said "Use images properly acquired through a reputable image service."
