In Malta there is a photographic opportunity every 5 inches. Bring loads of memory. Malta is one of the most bautiful places I have been on my travels. Landscape and architecture are plenty. over 300 churches. Valletta is very picturesque, inc The Valletta Waterfront. See the big guns as well. The cliffs, the churches. Popeye village. St Julians for a couple of pints. The whole Island is great. Rent a moped and drive around the island following the coastline. Its simply stunning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coastline_of_Malta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coastline_of_Malta) Loads of Bounty island blue lagoon type of spots.

Honestly, too much to name here, google it, I named a view of the popular spots.

In Sicily you want to get up to the mountains and then the small fishing villages, same goes for malta.

I envy you! I am reading a fascinating history of the Knights of Malta and the wars in the Mediterranean in the 16th Century. There must be some great ruins of castles and fortifications.

Have a good time? Send a postcard? LOL

Yes photo tip, take twice as many as you think you need. It's digital, it's virtually free to hit the delete button later, but you would have to pay a bunch to go back and re-shoot anything. Make that three times what you think you need. Memory is cheap.

Don't forget to pack your charger, and spare batteries and lots of memory cards.

The ancient walled city of Medina is a must see and if time, take the short ferry ride over to nearby island Gozo. Have a great trip! Regards, David.

Should you by any chance go to Corleone in Sicily, dont go around photographing. I am serious, no jokes.

It's interesting that some of you liked Malta so much. A very rich history, no doubt. Valletta and Mdina really offered some interesting photos. I visited Mdina twice, first we didn't see much because of a storm, second I had very little time before going to the airport. Also being with people (I have friends in Malta) who are not into photography is a problem, as I can not just take my time preparing a photo. The other cities were not so interesting, even with a church here and there. Blue Lagoon boats were not leaving because of sea conditions. I spent a day in Gozo, went to see some cliffs and beaches (a very different concept of beach for a Brazilian ;D ) and churches.
I liked the variety of sceneries, both natural and architectural, of Sicily. I was expecting Etna to erupt, but no luck. ;D  But saw some lava in Stromboli.
After two weeks of my return, I have not edited any image yet. :(

This is very sound advice.  I travel to some remote places and even if not remote, what race says means a lot.  I can't tell you how many people I have bailed out because they forgot some piece of equipment or batteries.  Plus, enjoy your time...don't make it a stock eye when you shoot more than something that simply pleases you.  Enjoy your trip.

I'm also looking forward to seeing your photos, madelaide.

Visited family in Malta in the 1970's (!) and my most vivid (non-family) memories are of underground burial chambers (separate ones for men and women) in someone's backyard, a horse grazing at side of road in lovely light, and the twisty steep steps in the streets of (probably) Valetta.

I've yet to finish the fascinating, but massive, book on Knights of Malta...  (But I did finish Thomas Pynchon's "V" / Valetta.)
