I just saw on Amazon that you can buy food (probably other things as well) on a subscription plan and save extra $$$.

I'm amazed to see how this whole subscription thing is taking over the planet.

Why would I want rice and pasta without gluten? Oh wait, is that another, "food is bad for you" fad.

Man my Sister gave up tomatoes (some so called new age allergist told her to do that based on urine samples), then it was tea and coffee (because of caffeine), sulfides and she's in a panic, then latest study says, "caffeine is OK" so she's back on that. Something about beer was bad, but she's drinking malt liquor, I guess that's the wheat or gluten? People drink bottled water, but what comes out of the faucet is actually better for you... Cheese is bad for you because it's got high fat. Chinese food is bad for you because of the fat content, but catch this, if you eat another scoop of rice, the fat percentage of the meal drops, so it's not as bad. Translation, eating more, makes for better percentages, so that's healthful.

Oh wait, you can't eat that rice, it has gluten. Nevermind?

Wine, soda and apple juice will eat the enamel off your teeth. There's genetically modified corn getting into your tortillas. Aluminum pots and pans give you Alzheimer's. Microwaves release deadly chemicals from plastics. Cooking meat on the grill enhances the carcinogens and besides that nasty grill is polluting the air and causing global warming.

California: (hope it falls into the ocean)
SCAQMD regulation 1174, enacted in 1992, two years after Antonovich's comment, placed strictures on manufacturers of charcoal and charcoal starter fluid. These regulations pertain to the volatile organic compounds (VOCs), contained in the charcoal chips as well as the liquid starter fluid. The law states that companies must submit the chemical contents of the product for certification. Any charcoal-related product must be certified that it contains "no more than 0.020 pounds of VOC per start upon ignition."

Somehow I'm not worried about gluten free pasta that I can order on the web.

Want to know what really bugs me. I wanted Kumquats for Christmas and couldn't find any local stores that have them. I have one of the Chinese friends looking in Chicago today at the Chinatown market. Dang, Kumquats and they are hard to find, someone has to drive 90 miles to get me some. What's wrong with this world?  ;D Good news I can order some from FL for $29 for a ten pound box. (not available for shipping to CA BTW) My day is made! If they have Kumquats on the subscription plan, I'm in!  :-*

So sometimes the simple things make a bigger difference than worrying about every bit of food and obsessing over it.

ps My Honda was made in the USA in The Honda Accord first rolled off American assembly lines in Marysville, Ohio, November 1, 1982. Amazing isn't it? And my "American" Dodge minivan was? Made in Canada!

You have much to learn, Grasshopper. Here's some enlightening reading for you;

http://www.amazon.com/Wheat-Belly-Lose-Weight-Health/dp/1609611543/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325881660&sr=1-1

Btw, why try so hard to obtain out-of-season fruits anyway? What's wrong with all the in-season stuff that is readily available and cheap? That's what nature designed for your diet. Not wheat or all-year kumquats.

Obviously natural out of season foods are better for me and my health than eating carbs?  ;D (oh oh, now I'm in real trouble!)

I don't care what anyone else eats, and what latest fad allergy they are in fear of. How did we ever make it this far with people eating peanuts, why we should all be dead according to the alarmists. Heck someone in the same airplane and you might die? Odd how that didn't happen until the panic?

Sugar high? Really or a myth?

Vaccinations cause autism.

You see where this is leading? People will believe any round of some new fear fad that comes around, and when it's shown to be not quite as bad as the yellow journalism is making it And the marketing hype has calmed down, people still believe it? Why? Yes there are truths in these things, but what happens when a world of hypochondriacs and victims gets hold of them and decides they all have whatever is popular.

Eat an expanding cookie to lose weight. HUH? Light a pieces of paper to remove wax from your ears. (hoax) Purge your bowels with these chemicals and remove pounds of waste. (absolutly a crock) So lets all hop on this after thousands of years of civilization, a wow discovery: "eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges, and reverse myriad health problems." We've all been eating the wrong things.  ::)

Want to be truly enlightened, read this link.

Examples:

Word was, stars of the 50's were able to get their hands on a capsule that set a parasite loose in your body and caused dramatic weight loss; there was some antidote pill that prevented one from dying. When opera diva Maria Callas lost a dramatic 65 pounds, rumor had it the tapeworm diet was her secret. Others just thought she had a tapeworm due to her propensity for eating raw liver.

In the early 60s, obstetrician Dr. Herman Taller advanced a novel dieting theory: eat as much as you want, and wash it down with vegetable oil. (Dispensed via pill.) Calories Don't Count was a national bestseller - even though, technically speaking, they do. The FDA later charged Taller with just peddling safflower oil and he was convicted of mail fraud.

Thomas Short, author of the 1727 not-classic The Causes and Effects of Corpulence had observed that heavier people lived near swamps. The obvious conclusion? To lose weight, live in a dry climate.

Anyone remember the Grapefruit diet? Have there been 25 Hollywood diets yet? Actually in the early 70s the High Protein diet made it way past us, came back as the low carbohydrate diet, much more popular. Scarsdale anyone? http://www.faddiet.com/scardietplan.html

Here's the truth, and I know it's not what most people want to read. They want some magic to make them healthy, more beautiful or smarter, when it long term hard work that is the real secret.

First, its important to understand that to be successful at hitting your fat loss and overall fitness goals, you have to stop thinking about a diet as something you do before your vacation to the Caribbean.  Your diet is a combination of your choices in food and your lifestyle, not something you do for a few weeks. In other words, its a long term commitment to eating more healthy.

Excerpt from the truth about the Special K diet.  http://www.answerfitness.com/120/special-k-diet-work/

But the best site of all is the funny one that just laughs at all of them in a kind sort of way: Fad Diet and the header is perfect. 30 ways to lose the same 5 pounds.  :D

Yes, Click_Click I've been enlightened for years, over and over. I even have the Yoyo Witnesses coming to my door with the watchtower to enlighten me. I've been yelled at (yes yelled) at a bowling alley by someone who thought it was horrible that I had "Meat on you pizza". Watched people march with signs protect KFC and the way chickens are treated. Been told that I was eating Non-Food because it had cotton seed oil in it. That I would die from mad cow because I ate hamburgers. (heck we eat raw ground round around here, live dangerously. It's called steak tartar in France, and the recipe includes a raw egg yolk) Oh my God someone eats raw meat and then a raw egg too and lived to tell about it?

Maybe someone needs to go Occupy a Pizza joint, picket and protest the gluten in the dough?

Don't we have enough problems in the world, without obsessing about food ingredients?

Consider what drives this and it's not good health or people who care. It's marketing. Selling special high priced organic foods, selling diet books, free range chickens, selling health foods. It's all about separating people from their money. And except in extreme cases, there's no law protecting us from mislabeled products, no legal definition of "organic", and there's abuse (lies) of what's really in the products as ingredients. Companies put "Fair Trade" on things that aren't sending a cent back to the workers. Why is that? Because if they lie they can charge us more, because we care.

Want to know why people get sick from fresh produce? Heck should vegetable be the safest thing we can eat. After all the criticism and fear mongering about meat? Ask someone who worked in the fields of California, ask a picker, do you see any port-a-lets in those fields? These people are being worked at a high speed pace, piece work. Do you think they have rest room breaks to go walk over to the edge of the field?

Wake Up! All this feel good food talk is nothing but marketing, business and profit.

And yes, maybe it is the caffeine, someone pointed that out. I'm drinking diet Dew and eating dark chocolate. Might be risky chemistry?  ;D

Another Theory, maybe it's Friday and I just can't wait to get out of the office. That's it!

(and still no Kumquats! No call from Chicago!)

Of course and most diseases are real. (not heading for psychosomatic and hypochondria issues here) But a best selling book that promises you can lose weight on a gluten free diet? Kind of odd that humanity made it this far with all of us eating wheat and rice? Or maybe it's a Fad Diet? Suddenly healthy people are discovering they have allergies and diseases, that they never had. In fact that we lived with for Centuries? And next year they will have something else. That's the problem.

I'm not discounting real illness, disease or health issues. I'm questioning health fads and pseudo-science.

Everyone take their big dose of vitamin C today so they won't get a cold? And when you do, are you loading up with Zinc, because it prevents them? Don't forget to flush your nose with saline solution after you get that cold... and then walk around your chair and throw flowers in the air. Because they all have about the same results for doing what's claimed. I think the flowers are a real aid in keeping me feeling better and not getting sick...
