Title: Tahrir Square Laser lights
Post by: rimglow on July 04, 2013, 17:27
Does anyone know where all the green laser lights from the crowd in Tahrir Square come from? Are they pen lights? It looks like some one had a concession on the green ones!

I think this was the first revolution with a laser light show. All future revolutions will have to include them.

BBC

The use of laser pens has become a distinctive feature of the protests against the country's leadership, which began at the end of last month. So why are they being used? Mostly just for fun, according to the BBC's Angy Ghannam in Cairo. "It started as a way to check the rooftops of buildings to get a feel if someone is there, such as snipers," our reporter says. "They are sold like crazy at the square. Street vendors are all over the place. "Anything at the square turns into a trend and a fashion in no time."

Mostly green, probably bought in bulk from China.

I find it interesting that religions are "Color Coded".  Protestant = orange, Catholicism = yellow, etc.

from Wikipedia:

"Green is considered the traditional color of Islam. The Arabic word for "greenness" is mentioned several times in the Quran, describing the state of the inhabitants of paradise."

or maybe the green lasers were on sale . . . . . . . . . . .
