Hi everyone,
I am just informing you that I had to change my username from Whitechild to Dreamframer, because I had comments from 3 people that my username sounds kinda racist.
I would like to explain what my username means, and then I will change it anyway.
When I was a kid I was blond, and my older brother always had dark hair. That's why older people (neighbors mostly) used to call me "white child", or "white kid".
I have never divide people by any means, including skin color, and I didn't even think someone will ever connect my username with racism. But it seems that Americans still have problem with this.
Most musicians I love to listen are black. I was always amazed by black people's musical talent, which is even more noticable in my case since I sing and compose.
So, I had to change my username, and I came up with Dreamframer.

well, i never thought that, but best of wishes with your new name. actually, i thought dreamstime had adopted you and was making an official announcement.  :D

Yea, when I read the title I wondered what a dreamframer was.

I never gave your name a thought, other than maybe that it was your last name. Personally, I think everybody is just a little too politically correct and take themselves a little too seriously.

With a name like clapper, I grew up with a fairly thick skin. Kids at school were a little easier on us girls but my brother was always being called The Clap. (for our foreign friends, The Clap is a nickname for gonorrhea, a venereal disease). Or crapper. Fortunately, most people now ask if I invented The Clapper (clap on, clap off, the automatic light turner-oner).

Thanks for the heads up on your name change.

What? Really?
Hard to imagine.
Dreamframer sounds really Dreamstime, I agree.
What if you want to go exclusive?
Anyway, welcome :)

I find it quite pathetic that anybody would connect your user name with racism.

Me too. It's ridiculous to make this connection.

And it will take ages for me to get used of the change (I'm slow!)

The good thing is that we can shorten it to DF instead of WC.  :)

To be honest, when I first read your name I wondered about it - particularly since your head is shaved (like skinheads do here in the US) - but just reading your posts and getting to know you makes it very clear what kind of person you are.

Sorry some folks took your name wrong, but if people would withhold judgment and get to know you before drawing conclusions about your name, they would have discovered what I did:

Ivan, you are one of the nicest people I have met online and don't seem to have a mean or racist bone in your body.

Maria, Maria... lolol  ;D

Thanks Lisa. I bet most people here think the same about you.
I know that people often make conclusions even on the first sight, and if I want to sell something to someone, I have to think about this as well.

@cclaper , lol, so, I am not the only one with double sided nickname.

Exactly the same here, Ivan.

You probably don't know my username, but I first encountered you on DT when you faved me. I took a look at your username, your profile pic, and I was very worried that you were indeed a skinhead. But not too long after that, you started posting here, and it soon became clear that whatever your username meant, it had nothing to do with racism.

Still, I think it was a good idea to change your username, because I suspect there might be some US sales that you lose (believe it or not) due to the unfortunate racist implications. I hope someday things will change here, but I'm still waiting for us to adopt the metric system, and look how long that's taking.   >:(

Ivan, you will have to let us know if your sales pick up noticeably.  Maybe your new name will turn out to be a financial windfall for you.  Then you will see people with "Dream"y names popping up all over the place ;D

Hate to say it but I wondered too, given the shirtless skinhead look in conjunction with the name. Good to hear it was misplaced!

Me too. Do they think the same about someone whose surname is White (or Black)?
But some of my pupils have told me they had a primary school teacher who insisted on them talking about 'rainbow pencils'.
Anyway, good luck with your new 'identity'.

like several others, that WAS my initial reaction, but all i had to do was read your posts to realize the truth so i let it go - a private msg would probably have been helpful;  unfortunately, in the US it's not a matter of political correctness anymore, but the complete dumbing down of discourse -- to the point that merely calling someone 'liberal' eg is supposed to prove your case.  with the tea party, militia & aryans, provocative signs and names are common and recently, and can be accompanied by death threats or bricks

Wow!
That thought has never, not for a second, crossed my mind.
Actually, I'm confused.
What is it that's so bad about 'Whitechild'?
Can't be the 'child' part. It must be the word 'white'.
Or it might be that people are over sensitive and pushing the race card as far as it would go.
My bet goes on the latter.
But in this case they were lucky.
You are indeed a very nice man and 'Whitechild' is no more.

'Dreamframer' sounds magical. It's a good choice and I'm sure it will bring you luck.
Let them have the White Child if it makes them feel better...
We're left with the dreams, not a bad outcome :)

In my country people say: "from your mouth to God's ears" :)

I heard that Whitechild is pretty common English last name, so I was surprised that no one took that nick name in microstock world...

i don't automatically jump to racist conclusions whenever i see 'white' unless there are other negative connotations. i actually associate white with innocence and thus, innocent child. black, on the other hand, well, that's another kettle of fish...

I have no desire or reason to "push the race card" (I am "white"). I'd never heard the name 'whitechild' before, but that, combined with the skinhead appearance, concerned me. It is an unfortunate fact that there are a lot of racists left in the US. I wish it were not true, but it is.

Actually, Ivan is a dead-ringer for my brother-in-law.  Who is quite handsome, BTW.

Other than the hairstyle I don't think he looks anything like Telly Savalas.   :P

On the "racism" issue, people's interpretations may have something to do with where they live or their life experience.

Here in the Southern US racism is alive and well and something you get confronted with on a fairly regular basis.

What are the names of this wannabe soul or whatever keepers?
Why dont you suggest them to put you on ignore list if they are so smart with they narrow minded to just judge you by you avatar name without read any of you posts?!
I dont know what I will do in you place, de facto I know. If I will be so calm I will put them on ignore and make post with they names.
If its not my day I will suggest them/s to fck off of me in tripple jump...

I got to admit, the notion did cross my mind too, but only momentarily. Just have to read anyone of your posts to see that, you are more than a nice guy. It is unfortunate that you've been forced by circumstances to change ur username. However, probably a wise decision. There have been so many white supremacist movements and also governments in recent history (the word recent also has it's own interpretation), that people could easily form a negative perception of your name, whether that could affect sales, I don't know. The name Dreamframer is also a memorable one. Anyway, whatever the name, it's the photos that count.

I've often noticed in my part of america that hardcore anti-racism people are usually that way because they themselves are racists. I could care less what color a person is. It means absolutely nothing .. you could be black and call yourself BlackChild .. not only would it not offend me I wouldn't even stop to think "BlackChild .. a black guy .. ahhh I get it." I wouldn't notice until somebody pointed it out to me. But then again in our society it doesn't matter what you do or say .. provided that you are not white .. it's accepted for a black to "represent" and draw attention to their color, form groups based on color, ummmm create a web browser just for black people ... BlackBird .. mainstream minority comedians can slam on whites on TV all night long but turn it around and it's a controversy ... and now WhiteChild feels the need to change the name he has been using forever and a day because people are actually offended by it. That's just stupid. I'm suddenly feeling the need to change my name to CrackerBoy just because I hate the idea of people actually having the nerve to complain about his name.

Oh and I never thought you was a skinhead. :)

Guys thanks for your compliments and support.
Well, there is a world class name in R&B music, a black guy Rodney Jerkins who calls him self "Darkchild". And there is even DJ Whitechild, also well known name etc.
@madelaide: Maria, you can call me Dreamfarmer, or whatever, lol :D no problem.

I don't see any of it said!

BlackChild, WhiteChild, YellowChild or WhateverChild is not racist at all!

First people must adopt that NICKNAME is what it is - just a nickname.

Those who made you change are thinking that anything anywhere is racism... And they are wrong.

I am sick of double moral standards in many countries.

It is 21st Century people! Why would anyone think that someone's nick is racist?

What a case from nothing - it is stupid indeed!

For those three 'smarties' - live YOUR life and don't whine about others people personal details with no matter if they are white or black.

I don't believe that may be a problem. If there is what buyer wants then buyer will buy with no matter what your nick is!
So, if there is such buyer I am really sad to hear that.

Ivan, I don't think you had to change your nickname. I also come from Balkans and I'm sure you don't even have an opinion about black people. You have your opinion about Serbs, Muslims and Croats and if your nickname was something like Cetnik or Ustasa it would be really bad. But, black people, we don't know them.

What reminds me, my great-grandparents were Italian, and had never seen black people in Italy.  My great-grandmother, the first time she saw one here in Brazil (late 19th century), went screaming into her house - she had no idea that black people existed.

Dаmn stereotypes. I remember the society were "white" was just another color and "rainbow" was just a beautiful sky phenomenon pictured in almost all illustrated kids books.
