We had a similar thread a few years ago, thought it might be interesting to do it again. We all have differrent tastes but what photographers (stock or non stock) inspire you or whose images do you look at when you just feel like looking at some photos?

For me some of the old 'masters' Ansel etc

more modern

I still like Rarinda Prakarsa http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=2231437 some duds and heavily photoshopped but still some great images.

Gavin Gough - http://www.gavingough.com/ who is part of the visual peacemakers http://visualpeacemakers.org/
Did a one day workshop with Gavin in Bangkok, expensive but definitely worth it - quickly assessed where I was at, worked out ways to push me and certainly taught me a lot. His being a super nice guy comes through very quickly and people are at ease with him - with that connection I look at his images and can imagine being there and get inspired to jump on a plane, or at least go take some photos :)

Who inspires you?

Social Documentary: Salgado, head and shoulders above the rest: http://www.amazonasimages.com

Natural History: too many to mention, but Tui de Roy is fantastic and her life story is almost unbelievable (how she started).  I can't find a website for her (I have a couple of her books). She sells via Corbis: http://www.corbisimages.com/photographer/tui-de-roy

I'm 100% with you on Salgado, oh Shady One.

I love the contemplative nature of Frederick Evans's cathedral studies: http://www.andrewsmithgallery.com/exhibitions/frederickevans/index.htm

I love looking at this guys work.  http://cetrobo.deviantart.com/

I love the colors he works with as well as the whimsical ideas.

I also love following http://elenakalis.deviantart.com/gallery/

Her underwater work is pretty dang cool.

And this last one http://cute-and-bright.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/

Her photos may be a lot more kitschy and overfiltered but I think they're cute and again I love the colors.

The old masters are great but I like watching some new/er people the most.

Peter Lik for Panoramas --- Sounds interesting and his photos are good enough to be sold for $1M. Impressive 16 exhibition galleries to his credit.  Purely commercial artist who has explored the market like pure businessman. -- Lik.com

In Microstock markets, the photographers are way ahead and some of them can afford real good team and equipments. They are earning well with the number of images. I am jealous of them. I am at the bottom of it and wish to be where Sean Locke, Rob and Yuri Arcus are.

I recommend two books recently published...

Magnum Contact Sheets
Garry Wingrand

Neither are conducive to Microstock

I recommend []
Magnum Contact Sheets

Yes, this is a very nice and interesting book.
And sometime funny as it show the images "around" famous images that we all know ;)

I strongly recommend it too

Basically, I am inspired by photography, I have a long way to go, but the photographer that so far has inspired me directly is Matt Gibson. His story and portfolio is amazing. His landscape and nature shots are just inspirational as individual images and seen in an portfolio its just a journey when you look through it.

BTW, I am going to see Sebastio Salgado's "Genesis" tomorrow. He is amazing. I can not say he inspires me, because I don't have the slightest pretention to be a tenth of the photographer he is, but I love his work.

Robert Capa is also a photographer I love.
