Sure I make a joke for three years and she steals it?  >:(

That's OK I have others...  :)

Sounds like she's serious and not just squatting on a site name: (best wishes to her)

Barb Choit (1977, Vancover, Canada) methodically collects, archives, and expertly photographs refuse that would normally be swept up and thrown out. The photographs on view are part of the temporary storage archive of her Division Museum of Ceramics and Glassware a project which interrogates and celebrates the impluse to collect and document a rapidly proliferating glut of disposables.

That's why we have copyright, trademarks, patents... to protect one's remarkable ideas.

Thanks for pointing out why I didn't protect my dumb idea.  ;D It was unremarkable.

I'm sorry, I missed out on that one. What happened?

You made jokes about a website called crapstock.com 3 years ago and now someone registered it?

I don't understand. The website is not in use.

Can someone fill me in?

I think you pretty much covered it. I've been making a joke about starting a site named CrapStock for years, maybe three. Also I call the Micro I do "CrapStock" as a way to separate it from people who do serious Micro shots, with models. Someone who shoots junk that she finds, has registered the name for the site, within the last two months and I suppose she's going to do something with it eventually. That's why I said, she's not just parking the name and holding it.

The reason I was looking the other day, is I was finally getting around to registering the name. Too late. You snooze you lose... someone else has it, I need a new site name and maybe one that isn't as negative. But I'll continue to label the people who upload things they find around the house and snapshots that they happen upon, as "CrapStock".  ;D

And stupid ideas shouldn't be implemented. :)

I have multiple websites for useful purposes, spending the money to make CrapStock would only be good as a mockery and some entertainment.

I agree with you.

once upon a time there was a thing called snapvillage and now even turned into a decent thing
another one is called graphic leftovers
I never understood why one would want to include a word with a commonly negative meaning in a trademark, but it happens

Yet another reason for not ever following through with the joke. I have a new one. Must have taken 20 minutes and I like it better. I agree while I can describe the snapshots and junk I've sometimes produced as CrapStock, it would be a double negative for a site.

I don't know why she went with the word stock? maybe Phoney CarpArt was taken. There's so much of it around nowadays. People making things and shooting junk, just for the sake of being different, which is about the extent of the art, no creativity. "Oh wow, how strange and bizarre can I be, without direction or reason." Not what can I do that's different, original AND creative.

Love it!

I was out of town (well mostly out and in for a few weeks) and something came up today, I went to search the http://www.crapstock.com registration and it's blank. Then I looked at the site and hey wait. Did I get drunk and register a site that's protected until 2013?  :D  I look at the forum and magic, the nice lady artist who was going to do "crapstock" has come to MSG.

I'll be writing... and thanks. Cracked me up!

What's your plan Race? All images same price? Or are you going to introduce VetoCollection and Crap(minus)?

Well it was a joke from the start and some people don't get it. I was reprimanded for not registering my idea, when it's wasn't real. (what else can I say) But when someone stole my idea (and she didn't really, it was a completely different meaning of crap stock, I believe using found items) I got to make another joke. I was again called out for not protecting the name.

Here's where it came from. I was calling MY own Micro "Crapstock", not anyone or anything else. My collection is "Crapstock"

After a while I did come up with an idea, make the requirements for being accepted for sale on CS, the image had to be refused by one of the top four agencies, SS, IS, FT or DT.  ;D ( and not for sale anywhere else, everything on CrapStock would be exclusive rejected images only!)

Pricing? One price fits all, everything RF only, $5 OD downloads, artist gets 50% (going with the general theory that the agencies are abusing people because of supply and demand)

So it's a fictitious project and idea, created to mock my own lazy work and CrapStock collection.

Hope that helped. Here's to Barb for getting me good on this whole thing.

I love the fact that you saw what she had written on the crapstock site before you saw what she had written in this thread.  You must have thought you were seeing things. Brilliant.

It's more of a cosmic theoretical site. I never intended to register the name or make a real site.

Yes she got me good and I'm still laughing.

The only reason I went to the site was something came up with another site this morning and I went to see how she was doing with CrapStock. Talk about surprise? And then I thought, what did I do? How did I register a site that was taken? My Pseudonym for the forums is on there? Talk about had!  ;D

I had eight smaller sites go dark recently, and I moved all the content under one as archives. (aka cobweb sites) Now I have two active websites, a hand full of free pages, stumping Microstock, and two registered live sites, which are undeveloped. There's no lack of things to do. The newest pages are http://PeteKlinger.com (how's that for not very interesting?) Totally non-commercial. Maybe an Amazon link,. Vistaprint, dropbox promo, and I may have something else buried, but it's just a personal site, name holder. (including a broken link to Microstock that I created when I was merging two sites, now I can't find the data...)

50%?

70% is the norm for application stores ...
