Bullocks, it should say why big global brands wont hire you as a photographer. My local pub is interested in my services for Saturday nights. They dont need Ansel Adams to shoot their shitfaced clientèle.

I disagree with the article that what big brands and big agencies are looking for in a photographer has changed. We've always looked for photographers and illustrators (and directors) with a unique, recognizable style and point of view. As long as I've been in the ad business top image creators have been "known for" something, and there's always a photographer or director whose style is really in demand because he or she is the flavor of the moment. And there's always a demand for "solid" photographers who are generalists as well, who can shoot a product on white. You see that in microstock too.

being a generalist professional has never been a recipe for success in any field.
succeeding in commercial photography or fashion is also very hard nowadays, i did some fashion in the past but i've never been pleased with the results as i've nothing to do with the fashion world, i just can't understand the whole logic behind it.
sure, i could try fashion or news or events or nightlife but they're just not my cup of tea and i would compete with pros who are very good at it.
by the way, if commercial brands find it so hard to sell their cr-ap without hiring a bunch of artists on acid maybe the problem is themselves and their sh-itty products !
