(Right off the top this is an 'Off Topic'  subject that has little to do with the daily grind of our business)

I am interested in hearing true stories of your worst day in the business- i.e. returns (had 2 large one's today), equipment failures, models not showing up.

My worst day was after shooting outdoors I forgot to zip my camera bag up- as you can guess when I lift my bag out of the trunk of my car the expansive dSLR fall out of the bag and hit directly on the concrete crashing my 24-70 lens- toast! What a day to remember... :-\

Wow, I hate it when I drop my camera >< Unfortunately I never hit it so badly!

My worst day...hmmm...I can't find something THAT bad, but last Wednesday was my worst day ever since I got started in microstock. At the end of last month I started selling a lot of pics ( my sales almost tripled! ) I was so hyper about it and finally felt like I was doing something right in this business. The sales were crazy for weeks! And then last Wednesday...0 sales! I know ups and downs are to be expected in microstock but it was a pretty big blow for me. I was expecting a bad period to follow, but I thought that sales will only decrease a little, not disappear! And the funny thing is, the 0 sales day came after a day which was my best day ever. Cruel fate is making fun of me :D

About a month ago I was filming a music video and went outside to have a smoke. (I know, I know, please leave the smoker hate at the door)

While I was outside, one of my quick-release plates failed and my 5DII took a quick trip onto the floor.

Camera was fine, but my Tamron 28-75 is a goner. We had to finish the shoot with another, much crappier lens.

Oh, yeah, my deductible is more than a replacement, so insurance didn't help.  :(

this goes back to the film days...
having an assignment for a major magazine covering a story on tea. i had access to a very privileged tea room for afternoon tea after a lot of effort convincing the proprietor who was somewhat reluctant to provide access due to the nature of the wealthy guests. he finally allowed me to go in there for 5 minutes in peak period to shoot. well i went in and shot the whole roll of film, got some really great stuff, only to realize i did not put film in the camera when i got back to the studio. it sucked to be me that day for sure. story came out fine, just did not include that high society tea room.

Yes, the old film days probably had much more casualties than with today's digital cameras. Like the film not not hooking on properly on the spool. That one you normally only found out when trying to rewind the film into its canister and the opposite external wheel stopped turning after one turn of the rewind arm.

My worst I had with digital was not major, but trying to catch that "absolute once in a lifetime perfect scene" this holiday I grabbed my camera and turned my selector to AV on which I had my preset "sweet spot" settings. At home I wanted to have a look at my master pieces in making, only to find that in my haste I turned the selector too far and had it on "P", which I have never used and set up. All images unrecognizably burnt out.  ::)
