Is that right that they charge a 35 cents "initiation fee" for Paypal users when signing up?

never mind, I just noticed the subject was panthermedia, so I think you might mean panthermedia is charging you 35 cents?

It sounds to me that they charge me 35 cents initially when signing up with Paypal:

**     Why we have to charge a set-up fee::
If you wish to offer images in our stock agency, you need a free account with one of our payment partners, PayPal or Firstgate. You need this account for several reasons: 1)we transfer your remuneration from licence sales to this account, and 2)to verify your registration data (for legal and security reasons) The set-up fee for registration with PayPal is 0.35 euros (=35 cents ). If you register with Firstgate, the set-up is for free.

Paypal make a small charge to your bank or credit card to to verify the account is valid and get a registration PIN but this is refunded immediately once the account is set up - perhaps this is what they mean?

Yah, basically Paypal deposits small amounts of money into your account that you have to verify through your bank before your account is activated.

Just to avoid any confusion:

I was asking if PANTHERMEDIA is charging a fee when signing up as a contributor using Paypal.

I'm NOT talking about the verification process of Paypal when signing up for a Paypal account!

yes, Panthermedia is charging 35 cents if you choose Paypal as payment method, as a way of verifying don't know what. However weird, it's just a minor annoyance.

Yeah annoyance, like the 12 MB file limit or the 8000 pixel restriction... annoying. I'm not too happy about all that.

I'd suggest using a command-line editor in batch mode to resize and compress in a single passage. XnView has one called nconvert. They are not very picky about artifacts so if you reduce to 8000px and compress to 95-97% quality it should be ok.

In my opinion - despite all these annoyances - it's worth submitting: there are some sales at very decent prices.

PS: you should have seen their previous upload system: that was really ugly, with lots of boxes to tick and fields to fill - despite using IPTC. Their current process is acceptable.

Really? And I thought the current process is already very inconvenient to say the least.

It almost looks like Alamy Upload but all options on one page. Or is there a button to switch to another easier interface  ???

No switch unfortunately, what you see is what you get. It is inconvenient indeed.

Before, it was basically the same but you had to repeat process for every single file and every field had to be filled - now at least you can do it in batches and many fields are optional.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the heads up.

How long are review times and how does the initial review work?
I couldn't find it on their site. I just started uploading...

Review times are long: days or even weeks.

For the initial review you must submit (20?) pictures and then wait before submitting more; if acceptance is at least (40%?) then you have no upload limits - otherwise, a very low upload limit will apply (2 pictures a day?)

Question marks are because I subscribed a long ago and I am not sure I remember well - now I can't find it on their site as well.

The good part is that acceptance is good.
And - being based on German law - pictures of buildings including modern architecture are acceptable without release if taken from a public point of view.

Again thanks. Gotta weed out my oversized uploads first...

is the 30% commission paying off? Are there significant more downloads?
