I took this last night shortly before midnight using an 8 second exposure on my Nikon D70.  I was primarily trying to capture the mood of the water.  If I was going to submit it, I think I'd have to blur the names of the boats but otherwise, what do you think?

Sorry - I've been trying to insert the actual pic here but it doesn't seem to be working for me...

It's a very nice picture Chris, but perhaps a little on the dark side.

Also, you will definately have to remove any visible names or serial numbers on the boats. It may also be slightly blurred at 100%, or could be my eyes!

Overall, I like it but it may need a little work IMO to be more stock marketable.

Hope this helps

Stu

I don't like it
It's too dark
Very little or no detail
Boats are too far away
It has an orange color cast I don't like
The horizon in smack in the middle of the frame

Not sure if it's sharp enough or not, but the pic does have a certain mood and is quite appealing.

If you can get it tech right it's worth a shot.

tad to dark for me.

Plus it will never be sharp because boats will move over an 8 second period (this isn't a bad thing, just somethignto account for when doing composition).

I really like it in the small size.  It's almost surreal how the orange glows in all the darkness.  At the larger size though, the focus is a bit soft.  Using Unsharp Mask with the settings at 20/40/0 might help (it will also increase the contrast).

Thanks very much to everyone for their comments over the past week.  I've taken your respective feedback and made some changes to the picture.  I have posted a before and after - does the second picture look any better?

i think the picture still looks VERY orangey yellowy.  night shots can have a little orangy tinge, but not as strong as you have there IMHO

maybe this is a job for 'the miz' to try make better :)

I think it is to dark and orange, too. But I like the setting.  I took the freedom to change a little bit. I hope you do not mind..
Just a suggestion. Now it definetily is too noisy..
