Would the photo have to pass inspection to be eligible? Because none of mine have in months now...

I have some great hometown images but they are all editorial - too bad. Sounds like a fun contest.

It will make judging the contest a lot easier if they only accept 3 photos dontcha think?

Does envato have a list published somewhere of images they would like to see in their collection and those they have enough of?

It would save us all from this dribbling hyperbole

I'm not sure when travel photography turned into 'home town', but I too have had entire batches rejected summarily in the past few months, some batches that consisted entirely of travel locations, it lead me to make the assumption that photodune was awash with them

Yes we do have such a list, you can find it here:

https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/203039144-PhotoDune-Items-We-Do-and-Don-t-Need

I'll ask Gaby to follow up with some additional clarification here around travel photography in particular.

Items we dont need:

Theres nothing wrong with these files, we just have plenty of them already. This doesnt mean we wont accept any more flower photographs, it just means that if you want to submit one, youll need to bring something new to the table. Something that will allow your item to stand out from the crowd!

Flowers
Cloudscapes
Sunsets
Pet snapshots
Travel snapshots
Statue snapshots
Overly simple backgrounds

Whats a travel snapshot? This is your problem, you label every landscape photo as a travel snapshot. I just searched the photodune library and you have zero shots of one well known mountain. I live here, I plan my shoots, but you make no distinction. You just reject them.

I have landscape images you dont have in your library, but you dont want them as you have enough, you think. You have no clue.

Thanks Eric :)

So to address certain concerns some have expressed I'll try to offer a bit of clarification on the term "travel snapshot" that appears in our not needed list as opposed to our "home town" photos we are looking for in this contest.

A travel snapshot is basically images that could be taken by just about any tourist, without much thought being given to lighting or composition. You walk by something you find interesting, even if it's 12h05 and sun is at it's highest point creating harsh shadows, you take the shot. Now in rare occasions it might work, but usually it will just end up looking like...a "travel snapshot" and we already have tons of those.

As you can see in the official Most Wanted forum, the majority of the images used as examples highlight certain ethinicities, cultures, modes of transportation, lifestyles, interesting architecture, values, economics, that are mostly region specific.

If the subject is very generic, like a picture of a building window, it might be local, but will most likely have very little distinctive features (or commercial value).

If you were an advertising agency wanting to promote your area, what features you think would best highlight what your home town is about? That's really the angle from which you should be approaching this contest.

Don't forget to keep in mind the model and property release requirements, depending on what you shoot. We certainly want to encourage quality over quantity here ;)

Hope this helps, and good luck to everyone! :)

You and I have spoken already and you refuse to accept my images. You have made up your mind and according to the replies here and in the other thread, it is not an isolated case. If you even reject images of Jo Ann and Mantis, you are clearly out of depth.

I see mountains accepted as recently as today (actually tomorrow but I guess that's because of the time difference there?).  This site has a critique section http://www.microstockgroup.com/photo-critique/

Yes everyone else is always wrong.  Please tell me why you think they are rejecting your images that will sell many many times?  Is it because they don't want to make money?  Maybe there is a conspiracy against you?  My guess is that your images need work.

I thought there was a rule on here that said no whining about rejections without posting your photos?  Is that not in effect anymore?

I must be missing something, but that thread is about the contest and I didn't see a link to the winners - just examples of what you were looking for. I went to the Photo Dune home page but didn't see anything there either.
