I used to make $200 to $300 per month with Envato

Now I'm lucky to make $15 per month

I used to make similar amounts with shutterstock now I'm lucky to make $100

I used to make decent amounts with Alamy until they cut rates

I used to make a reasonable living but now I don't and finding a job at my age is next to impossible.

So now I go hungry a lot of the time and use my dwindling savings to pay the bills

Thats my impact statement  :'(

Competition will grow always. You have to run, run and keep on running.
Technology will evolve and will make things easier.
Young, energetic and creative kids will adapt to new technology and will find success in short span.

The key is to keep on learning and remain in the field.

Enveto manipulate their search engine algorithm to favour their exclusive contributors only.

I sometimes buy on this site, the search engine is completely rubbish, it more often than not throws up totally irrelevant content.

I used to have a small photographic portfolio on Enveto, which was around twenty photos, until they deemed it not worthy of their standards, which I have to say, there are stacks of photos that are completely rubbish compared with the same location pictures I had.

I also have a small portfolio of graphics on their site, but since they removed my photo portfolio, I very rarely get a payout, it used to be just about every month, many of the pictures used to sell most months along with the graphics.

I became disillusioned not only with them removing my photos but with the reviewers rejection of my graphics, they seem to employe what I can only describe as low life nutters, who have some of the weirdest and childlike avatars you could imagine, in fact one of them looks psychotic and then when you check these people out, like looking at there portfolios, they are just have a few bits of rubbish.

Enveto has nothing to be proud of and as for transparency, which they say in their Impact Statement, this is just total rubbish, transparency in what?

No transparency in the rejection process and no transparency in their search engine, no transparency in removing photos that sell.

This is not helping the creative community so this Camgough chap is just wrong, perhaps he can explain how removing photos that sell every month, is helping the creative community.

I'm sorry but I no longer believe that kool aid nonsense

I spent years looking after my elderly mother using stock income to support myself from 2012.

She died in 2020  not long after Envato effectively withdrew the bonus scheme in 2019, then shutterstock cut rates and Alamy chopped 20% off royalties.

The greed of stock agencies is now beyond the joke.

So no I don't believe this nonsense and the virtue signalling from agencies.

Envato is for me the worst agency in the video department by far. I don't submit anymore. Weird submission limits that go up and down,  hard rejections that depend on the mood of the inspector, many of those are files that get top seller position in the other sites. Just another hassle agency that it is not worth working with.

I don't care for Envato since they deleted my portfolio despite I was among the top sellers.
BTW I was a buyer there before, but not anymore. Never!

Are there literally any good/decent agencies left though?, seems like these startups (stock agencies) like so many others disrupted a market and business model that had been working for years just like UBER did with taxi driving and are now finding that they can't be profitable so they have to do many unpleasant things to keep their investors happy and repay those millions of investment dollars at 30%.

They won't admit it but they all seem to be losing money, guess what?, I nearly failed math which is how I ended up in college for photography vs engineering but I know better off the top of my head that the startup business model is not sustainable.

There's a reason they had to use Venture Capital funding to launch.....the banks laughed them out of the office.

The low wage and gig economy is not sustainable for the workers and the startups.

I kind of disagree with you on this point and so many say this "adapt or die" theory, but not always is that possible in every industry and for every person or business depending on skill, finances and location/market etc,  Age and background also has a lot to do with it, anyone can do back to college and learn a new trade but who will hire them?.

The young creative kids will adapt to knew technology faster, yes, and they probably know about and use technology that the 30+ crowd don't even know exists but are they making money at it or with it?.

So I'm not the only one......my biggest regret was staying past April 1 2019 when sales imploded on that very day at Pond5, now I am facing bankruptcy.

I won't ask your age but that's an issue and it's getting worse, they want under 25 with the looks, fitness and face of a 16 year old and it's like this for everything from the local car wash to fast food places to grocery stores to cleaning and building maintenance to high tech and if you have the slightest health problem you're unemployable for good.

It's been one heck of a wake up call for me this fall as my sales ended in stock and I started looking for work, I love driving, put a steering wheel in my hands and I'm happy and can easily go for 18 hours and I love working around cars and trucks but I got told by the boss at a local car rental shop that "This job isn't for you buddy....you need to find something in your field" (video) and when I told him that my field, stock video is basically gone away his response was "you can find something in your field just keep looking". "you don't want this job".

I'm too young to get the pension and too old to even get interviews for simple jobs.

Though I've turned my hand to volunteering to beef up my CV as well as casual work.  I even applied for shop work but never get interviews even though I have a good CV as I don't have relevant experience.

My sales dropped 60% from 2019/2020 and the whole try harder thing is negated by 10 cent sales and a few bucks here and there from Alamy.

As to the other agencies Adobe is on track to make $1000 this year exactly the same as last year and the smaller agencies no longer even make payout in 12 months.

However the bills keep going up  :'(

We didn't come so very far together, after selling my stuff for years you decided it wasn't good enough anymore and dropped me like a first wife. I guess you are enjoying your new "community" now.

My pond5 steady sales ended April 1 2019 and I sort of hung on and now it's going be bankruptcy.

My biggest wake up call and I  am in Ontario Canada has been the job search, so much I can still do and not qualified for anything due to my past as a "self-employed" and doing camera work means I'm not good enough to do literally anything from general labor to driving jobs to fast food to painting, cleaning, whatever....hardware store? "This job isn't for you", "you can find something better in your field".

Video and continuing as a self-employed in the gig economy doing stock was the biggest mistake of my life and I've been told by several employment agencies and advisors that I might never work again.

The greed of stock agencies is now beyond the joke.

You make it sound like they did withdraw the bonus scheme when they didn't. If they did then sure, we could put that down to greed. But they didn't withdraw it, they just changed the way its distributed. They still pay it out, and the total amount they pay out is still calculated the same way... and as subscribers have increased a lot since they changed the way it was distributed, they're also paying out a lot more than they used to.

So yes, the bonus may have been 'effectively withdrawn' for you, but the bonus scheme hasn't gone anywhere... and as a result, it has nothing to do with greed.

The only thing I have to say to you is

Envato
July 2019 $290.89 Total Earnings  Content Bonus $266.09

August 2019 36.82 Total Earnings Content Bonus $10.63

Total Envato earnings for 2018 $2715.74 in 2020 $244

So there you go
