Here's the blog post (http://notes.envato.com/news/marketplace-license-upgrade/) on what license changes they've made and some background on why.
I have to read through and see if any of this makes a difference for extended licenses for Photo Dune for me (I'm currently opted out as they gave away the store for a pittance, IMO), and whether there are any hidden gotchas. In today's climate, I am very circumspect - and worry that changes probably mean something bad :)

Hi everyone! I wanted to pop in real quick to give you all a heads up on some exciting new changes to our licenses. There have been many a topic posted here discussing much of what is being addressed so please take a moment to read through this article when you have a moment.

I know that the use of photos in themes has been a hot topic over here. After weighing out the pros and cons, we finally decided to pull that out. Authors are no longer allowed to buy an item from our marketplaces and use them in another stock item for sale. We hope this protects you guys a little better and that you consider opting back into the extended licenses.

Perhaps I'm just not attentive enough, but I went to check on prices for extended licenses on Photo Dune using one of my own photos. I was pretty surprised to see it was going to let me buy an EL and I opted out of ELs
I went and checked my settings and saw that I had opted out of ELs but further down the list were entries for PhotoDune ELs and PhotoDune regular licenses and both those were checked.
I have unchecked the PhotoDune Extended license box.
I am almost certain that the two Photo Dune license entries were not there in Nov 2011 when I set things up. If it's the case that the two new options were added at some point and people who opted out of ELs were automatically opted in for the new PhotoDune ELs, I'm not happy. I don't think I've sold any ELs so no actual harm was done, but I don't want anything to do with selling an EL for $8 - which is what it would cost if it were the smallest size item.
Worth checking if you thought you were opted out and want to stay that way.
And I don't see anything in the new terms that alters things for me. ELs are way too cheap for the smaller sizes so I'm staying opted out

Nope still a no go for me ;)

Hi Blammo, any chance you can share what you are looking for that might help change your mind? Your feedback is important to us :) There are still more changes to come so maybe we'll win you over yet!

Perhaps Tyler can merge the thread I started earlier this afternoon (http://www.microstockgroup.com/photodune/marketplace-license-updates/msg293358) with yours.
I'm also no change on ELs - although if you automatically opted us all in to the new PhotoDune EL (see my thread) you need to fix that pronto and only opt in only those people who were already opted in for ELs
My big problem is that ELs on small sizes are ridiculously cheap. I'm not taking $8 for a bunch of extended rights.
What would make a difference for me is a single EL price as an add-on to the purchase of an image license. The model's pretty widespread at other sites.
-
Don't worry - we did not automatically opt anyone into the extended license. :)
As far as the pricing, this change to the licenses was just phase 2. A better pricing system for extended licenses is great idea. We'll look into it.
-
Royalties went from 25% to 33. When they'll go up to 50%, I shall join. With your low prices, 50% really is the absolute minimum.
-
I agree with Jo Ann, I believe they have the cheapest EL price of all stock agencies if I am not wrong, I had 6 ELs with them since the start (after the beta version), hope to see changes in the pricing...

So when did the PhotoDune Extended license come in to being?
I found a blog post from May 2012 (http://notes.envato.com/general/extended-license-changes-part-1/) that gives instructions on how to opt in to Extended Licenses - no mention of PhotoDune Extended licenses there.
What I want to understand is how I was (until this afternoon) opted in to Photo Dune Extended Licenses when I was opted out of Extended Licenses?
-
The PD extended license has existed since the site opened. Authors are opted in by default when they sign up, but if you ever opted out, you should never have been opted back in. I'll check to make sure there wasn't an accidental bug.

Thanks so much for pointing that out to us. The devs found the error that occurred during the change and are fixing it now. They say it'll be fixed in about 15 min.

Glad you found the problem and thanks for a prompt resolution

It's fixed. If you see any other issues, please let me know and we'll jump on it asap! Thanks!

I think that is a good move. I had noticed that some purchases I have made at Envato (GR) did not contain the high resolution image, but they did contain a PDF containing the high resolution image. Will this practice also be stamped out? Given its quite easy to access the contents of a PDF.
Another consideration is those Authors who include their own high resolution images. Will they be allowed to carry on as before?
-
Reef. Can you give me an example?
-
I can. Will send a private message.
Done. The second part of the question is more of a query. I assume its ok to include your own HiRES imagery in your own theme without any hindrance?
-
Re-Your Private Message. Will you be taking action then, given the links he has provided are all different Shutterstock Users.
-
Assuming Shutterstock doesn't allow that, definitely. I'll look into it asap.

BIG QUESTION:
The guy that used somebody else images ( i remember the... windmills at sunset, Christmas decorated room, beach and the ocean) and incorporated in his own stock design HAS MADE THE IMAGES LEGIT??? Course if he bought an EL from Envato??????????????????

No, that is never OK. When you are uploading photos (on any stock site) you certify that you own the copyright to all elements in the photo. Even if you purchased an image or icon to use in commercial use and even resell you still do not own the copyright (unless you specifically purchase the copyright to that image/element). The user's portfolio you are talking about was removed from shutterstock

That was nearly 2 weeks ago - any reply?

Why don't you just fix the crummy EL pricing so we'd be happy to opt in?
