So I got an email today purporting to be from Envato with the title
Your Envato Author ID Check
"In the next 4 days you must complete an Author ID check for your Envato account,
To complete the check you will need:
Your government-issued Photo ID (your Photo ID must have the same name as your Envato account and the tax forms you have provided).
The ability to take a selfie on the computer or device you are using to complete the Author ID check."
However the links all pointed to a weird email "platformcommunicator.cmail19.com
Anyone else received this and is it legit?

I suggest you don't click the link because it seems fishy (or...phishy.) If you really have to do an ID check, it should be accessible via Envato Verify. You should double check with support to see if the link is legit.

Report it to Envato and to the specialized authorities in your country

The email is probably OK when I found the Envato Verify webpage it confirmed I needed to submit an ID.

Wow, yet another one that instead of sending from the site or linking from the site, is using some outside agent that looks suspicious.

Ok it is real. But they didn't arrange it correctly. There are so many ways to use external platforms and avoid such troubles and negative waves on the net. They don't care.
