Have to change the battery of my NEX6 soon. Need suggestions on whether to go for a sony orignal (expensive) or a brand like wasabi (half the price)
Some concerns
- will it charge in camera
- will it hold charge over long periods of no use
- will it screw the camera
- how long do they last compared to an OEM
-
I'd suggest sticking with the Sony and maybe try and find cheaper ones somewhere like Ebay. I tried a couple different non-Sony brands and my A7R literally went wacko. The camera shutter would stick open past the set shutter speed. Shut off. LCD would go blank. I thought the camera was screwed up but after putting the Sony battery back in it worked fine. I'm sure there are some brands that might work okay but I wouldn't waste the money trying to figure out it out.

I used those Wasabi cheapies from Amazon for nearly 2 years without any problem. They only last around 60% compared to the Sony.
Last month I decided to use my Nex on a trip on my primary job, and used a Anker PowerCore 10000 battery (made to charge cell phone batteries) to charge it via USB while I stopped for lunch

Do the wasabis lose charge over time? Even if not used?

I didn't notice them loosing charge over the short term. I hadn't used that body in over a year, so at that point they didn't have much charge left. I like that small rangefinder body style for travel.
I may still purchase a new Sony body for 4K video and travel next year. My GH4 does great for 4K video, but I like the APS C for photos, and the Sony body is much more compact.
