Shutter release cables for camera slider
angelacat:
Hi there
Just bought a slider for my GH5-S but need a shutter release cable for timelapses.
B&H recommend https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1054114-REG/vello_rcc_p1_2_5_2_5mm_remote_shutter_release.html/overview
But shipping doubles the price. So if my GH5 has a 2.5mm jack and the slider has a 2.5mm jack - is that all I need to search on ie are all 2.5mm jacks the same.
Prob a stupid question but I just don't want to get something that fits but doesn't work.
Thank you

Yes you just need a standard. There is nothing special to worry about.

Thank you - I'll get one ordered then.

Did you notice the ends are different? One side has four contacts and the other three contacts. I don't know if that matters, but if it's an adapter and not just a cable, there could be a problem. I don't know which end is the camera side. Most cameras have three contacts, common, focus and shutter. Why four?
And yes all that money for a cable? Don't know where you are shipping to, but USPS in the country can't be more than $3-$4 ?

Hi Unclepete
No I did not notice - see what you mean though. The one in the link is from B&H who sold me the slider and B&H insist this should work with my camera (GH5)
I'm in UK and the slider discount was worth the shipping charges from B&H (US) but $10 shipping for a little cable seems excessive.
Good spot I'll bear it in mind when I get one from Ebay or whatever.
Thank you - really helped
