Hi,

After reading something re working in Lab mode with PS for curves on this forum (I had already been giving it a try for noise) I did my research and tried it out.

The results are remarkable!

A strange thing happens though. When I open the file with PS the colours are there and the photo looks great. When I open the file with (windows) viewer, the photo looks flat and dull (as if it was never processed).

Has this sort of thing happened to you? I'm reluctant to upload my batch until I sort this out.

Lina

Apolgies if this is an obvious and rather stupid question, but presumably you ARE converting the file back to RGB before saving?

I think you may want to check  your working mode , you are probably saving your photos as Adobe RGB and not sRGB .

I think this may link can help you :

I had a similar problem. In my case I had the color management optimized for print, which gave the image a stronger red tone. When I switched it back to no optimization, it went normal again. Color management optimization is translated from German photoshop, so I am not sure if that is the right term for the English photoshop.

Thanks everyone,

I am converting back to RGB before I save. I will read  the cambridgeincolour page carefully tonight and see if my brain can process the information to provide a clue to this RGB affair.   ;D

Thanks again,

Lina (who finally made it to shutterstock and is very, very proud)

I don't know if this applies in this case, but I've found in the past that Windows seems to store some files in caches, heaven knows where, or why.

I used to get this with Outlook Express (in the days when I used it). I'd insert an image file into an e-mail, decide it was too big or something, and go back to image editing to change it.

But when I tried to insert the revised file it would always revert to my original one. The only way around that I found was to re-name the new version.

Maybe this is happening here. You could try re-naming the file (put a 1 on the end of the filename for example) and see if that makes any difference.

OK, did my homework last night after you pointed me in some directions, and half-solved it.

When i move back to RGB after I'm finished in lab mode, i go to image/mode/RGB and save.

I changed my monitor to AdobeRGB and still nothing. Then I noticed this little tick box when you "save as" in the colour section that says something like ICC etc. (is this what you meant hatman?) So I ticked it and it worked - that is when opening in PS and in the Windows viewer, the colours are the same! Bingo.

On to the next mystery, which is why the colour appears different (i.e.pre-lab) when I upload the processed picture on fotolia.
