Came up with an idea on how to make Sunlight beams

Any comments? Does it look artificial?

Looks good to me - nice job!
You may want to get rid if the lens flare, though.

How'd you get the idea, and how'd you do it?

Well I

1. made a horizontal rectangular selection on a new layer
2. made a gradient white to transparent top to bottom inside the selection
3. used the transform toll to make it into a cone shape at one end
4. positioned where I wanted it (still in transform) and made slight adjustments
5. blurred it to my satisfaction
6. applied outer glow (default)
7 changed blend mode to "Soft Light"
8. adjusted the opacity

Then I did the same for the second light beam

looks pretty good although you might want to leave the tree dark. The light still comes from the back!

Yes, leave the tree dark.

It's simple to change reality.
I just perform some "Photoshoptic Surgery" and cut out some light.
It was done in 1 minute time...just as a test to develop a technique. It needs to be tweaked.
