Title: Photoshop Lab Color - Dan Margulis - study group?
Post by: leaf on April 13, 2007, 01:33
Anyone interested in a study group?  I saw this done on a photography forum a whiel back and thought it was a good idea.  The book is very well written and has some great tips in it, and I think would help us create better photographs.

The study group would work like these.  Everyone participating would buy or borrow a copy of the book.  We would take one chapter a week and discuss what we have read and the techniques in it, and discuss how it was using those techniques on photos... and hopefully learn something.

here is an amazon link to the book

I should really figure out that amazon referral thing - but haven't yet, so no this is not an endorsement :)

If anyone is interested perhaps we could start in about 1-2 weeks so everyone could have a chance to get the book.

Great idea, I will think about it.
How long are the chapters? How much time would you estimate for a week, with a little trying out. I just have Photoshop Elements 2.0, is that enough?

each chapter is about 20 pages of large type and a few pictures.  I forget what you can do in elements.  Can you have curves and edit an image using LAB color space?

Hmmmm.... I think that you can download Photoshop, including the latest version of elements, as a free trial from Adobe.  It works fine for 30 days.  I tried out Lightbox like that and also some of the macromedia products.  Give it a shot.

But if your not planing on upgrading to full PS, there is no point in learning the skill is there??  Some people will never want the full version. £60 vx £600 is a bit of difference between elements and the full versionl.

Great idea!  I'm just now learning the power of Lab Mode, so the timing of a study group is perfect.
