It is out is beta.  Sounds good.  I have been holding off as I didn't want to spend the money and I didn't think I would use the features but I may get it once they bring out the final release.

My question is this though.  With its increases Raw capabilities (all the good bits from lightroom) and with Bridge,  what is Lightroom for.  It appears to me is redundant?

Second question: has anyone tried the beta?

ooohh i might have to download it and give it a try.

Yeah i am sorta wondering what lightroom is for as well.  Either they should make lightroom a better digital management software including all it does now, or incorporate it into bridge or photoshop or something... right now they have so many programs it would be nice to consolidate them a bit.

On the other hand, i do sure like using lightroom to print.  It goes SO quickly.

CS3 has improved print which should be to atleast the standard of lightroom (since it is newer).  So what does lightroom actually do which is different?

i assume you are talking about printing a lightroom and how it is different?

well for example, if i want to print out an 8X10 of six different images.  I want to print 2 images per page.  Try doing this through photoshop and you will be selecting papers and images and rotating and fixing and messing for half and hour.

In lightroom, you just select the 6 images, go to the print window, click on a predefined page set up (that you have set up from before) and it resizes your images and places them on the page for best fit (or how you want) click print and your done.

But couldn't they just incorporate that into CS3.

Isn't Lightroom just Bridge with Raw (maybe a few extra things but why not incorporate into CS3 rather than bring out a new program).

Not arguing with you, I just fail to see what this extra program adds that they couldn't have incorporated into CS3.  The only think I can think of is that is only a small part and theirfore should run quicker?  Maybe I dont understand what bridge does and why Lightroom is different (not just better as if better it should be included in cs3).  I have only use Lightroom (as a short trial) and Elements 3 which doens't have anthink like bridget I dont think)

well i agree with you that it seems crazy to have 3 different programs.  I am not sure i would want to live without any of them, but they should merge some of them.

Is CS3 a major or minor (upgrade) release?  In other words, will there be a charge for it once it comes out, or will it be a free upgrade release?

If it is a major release, I am confused.

The major feature (according to Adobe) is as follows:

"Our primary reason for releasing this beta version is to allow our Macintosh customers to run Photoshop natively on the latest Intel based systems

What is the big deal about this and why should anyone pay for it?  This seems like it should be an upgrade/minor/FREE release.

I think they have just caught the Google Beta craze.  Not sure what you would call significant but here are the ten main new features (apparently):

it is a major release and you will have to pay for it (in the spring)

It doesn't seem like there is any really large things that most people would miss over cs2, but i could be wrong.

bridge seems to have gotten a big update if you use that?!

It is totally a major release! I find many of the enhancements pretty useful!
