Here is a pretty novice tutorial I just did explaining how to swap out a background in a photo.  Yes, I 'cheated' and used an easy to isolate image but any image is possible with the same technique - it just takes more fiddling if your background is busy and/or the same color of what you are trying to isolate.

Photoshop Tutorial How To Change Background

If you have a better way or suggestions for isolating the subject I'm happy to hear them.

We regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission for addition to the iStockphoto library for the following reasons:
The execution of isolation contains stray areas that are either too feathered or rough.

Probably good enough for all other agencies, though.

Very nice presentation compared to dozens of Youtube attempts "How to Change the Background".

Of course, "precise finishing" would be fine :),  as rimglow wrote.

I like it! Thanks for posting.

Sometimes it's hard to find good tutorials on youtube if you ever try to find something specific.

Will be added to my favorites!

Yet another reason not to submit to IS. Very useful tutorial BTW, best I have seen on how to isolate.

I'm using Knockout 2.0. Much faster and result is the same. No problem even with iS
Photoshop - Recorte utilizando o plugin Knockout 2.0

With this image I think the 'Background Eraser Tool' on a duplicate would have been faster.

Refine edge is one of the coolest new tools in Photoshop, but even with all of it's power, it still does a sketchy job with hair in my opinion. Halo's and crunchy edges are basically the two end results you can pick between unless you're going to a background that isn't too different in color or even white can look good since they are essentially graying out the fine edges. That knockout 2.0 looks interesting, never heard of it.

I'm using KnockOut v.2 on WIN 7  64B and no problems so far works like a charm.

Because You have installed both 32 and 64 bit.
This is official explanation from developer web page.

I have 64 only.
