Title: 1/60 shutter speed and 30 Frames necessary for stock videography?
Post by: Stocker2015 on July 19, 2020, 06:12
Using the shutter speed with double value of the frame rate is necessary for stock videography always? If i shoot a video outdoors without a Nd filter everything is so overexposed and i need to increase shutter speed. Can i use these type of videos and sell in Pond5?

I don't think that's a rule, it's just preference for motion sensation, yours and what you think suits and will sell better, I don't even think they have a way of knowing what shutterspeed was. I'm sure there are tons of videos shot on mobile phones and accepted with no regards to any of the parameters.

Thank you. As far as i know this rule only for the motion blur quality. As you say, i don't think that no one can understand the shutter speed of a video.  :)

Just carry around some ND filters.  For bright days I can toss on a 8x ND and am good to go.  If you want longer shutter speeds for something like lightning during the day, use a 64X ND.  Can keep ISO low.  The theory is: The reason for the 180-degree rule is because it helps us to record video that contains natural movement. If the shutter speed is too slow, you’ll get blurred movement, if you shoot at a shutter speed that’s too high, everyone in your scene will look like robots or as if they were recorded in stop motion. Sticking to the 180-rule will give you the most natural movement.

I will use my smartphone and gimbal first. It is hard to find good ND filters for android. I have Hoya Pro variable and i need to attach to phone with an adapter but i couldn't find a solution.

Do you think that 30 fps is the best frame rate for stock videography? I see some videos with 29.97 FPS in pond5. I will use filmic pro but there is only 29 and 30 FPS options. Are 29.97 and 30 same?

No, it's not necessary.
Most buyers don't care about your motion blur. They watch for story in frame, good light, cute model etc.
And shutter x2 fps isn't a rule in movies also. When you shoot sports or fast motion you can make faster shutter. When you shoot something almost still -- you can make shutter slow. There's some scenes in movies shot with very slow shutter (like 24fps with 1/24 shutter) to make dreamy look.
But for stock footage sales that doesn't matter. Just shoot good light, color and catchy story in frame. It's much more important.

What is influence of the shutter speed on video's?
And where i can learn more about it?

And what is the influence on sales?
