So it officially starts, received a mail today saying that there is an update to the contributor agreement with SS being added as a party to the agreement

The % royalties remain the same for now but I see a clause for flexible pricing for subscription etc at their discretion (not sure if this was there earlier)

Are there still video sites which don't offer subscription?

I just went to upload some files and there was a popup with New Contributor Agreement and a date that looked like February. I uploaded the files, now the notification is gone. Searching for new contributor agreement, I find nothing. Doing the chat bot, it says there are no plans to change anything. Did anyone read that before it disappeared?

I had a quick look at it (in particular commissions for video) and nothing there appeared different (ie: Non-exclusive 40% and exclusive 60%). Don't know about other content as I don't upload anything but video.

Thanks, hours later, logged in again:  https://www.pond5.com/legal/contributor/20230202

Just in case anyone else has it come and go.

And this also.  https://contributor.pond5.com/getting-started/payout-overview/

Links which are in that message thread from three days ago.

As I understand... they want the control of the price... which is bed to me.
It was cool that with Pond5 we could have very high proces for some very nice hard to get footage.
Now what ?

"3. Pricing and Your Share of Net License Revenue

You have the option to set the price of your Content. However,

we will have sole discretion to adjust the price of any Content to maximize your overall revenue performance or comply with our minimum pricing guidelines;"

I am not a Pond5 contributor, but from what I have read from other contributors this is not new. Contributors were often complaining about Pond5 selling their videos for much lower prices than what they themselves had set the prices to.

I'm surprised they even mention maximizing "your" revenue, seems like a weird thing to mention since they so clearly don't care about our revenue.

This has been true for a while. Especially the whole lower pricing for smaller countries fiasco where Pond5 would sell at much lower rates in certain countries

These companies are run by greedy bean counters. They have a team of incompetents to adorn their contributors "squeezing even more" policies with BS. I would stay away from these suckers. Makes no sense to be their slaves.

I removed all my quality videos from pond5. I am still exclusive on pond5, but only low&middle quality standard videos are online. Also i stopped uploading new videos. On long term ,pond5 will decline if they continue selling our videos on trash prices...

Let me help you with an answer?

    Denial
    Anger
    Bargaining
    Depression
    Acceptance

I think over the years, many people who still upload, have reached Acceptance. (either that or found something else and this is just a side interest)

Here's my question. Anyone can easily find the only forum that discusses Microstock honestly, and has all kinds of smart people successful and long term contributors, yet new people decide to try to make money in this business? Can't they read? Or is it "that won't happen to me" kind of thing?

For ten years, Microstock has been going downhill. The boom is over, the growth is long passed, we're watching decline and sorting out of the marketplace. And people are joining because it's something new and a way to earn money?

The race to the bottom has pretty well been run, and here we are. Can't get much worse and there's no returning to the way things were.
