Title: Exclusive contributors - price strategy
Post by: rene on April 04, 2019, 17:04
I'm hesitating how to fix prices on my exclusive files. On one side I want to get as much as possible, on the other hand I would like to make P5 competitive and bring traffic from others sites.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Yes, Keep your HD at $79 like other sites and your 4k double that or higher. We don't need to create a race to the bottom ourselves. You need those prices as that is the only place you are selling your clips so don't sell yourself short!

My personal opinion/experience is that if you feel your work is of average quality you should keep your exclusive HD at $79 minimum (industry standard). If you feel your work is better than average raise your prices...maybe even by a lot.  No matter what, don't undercut other agencies prices. You will not make it up in volume.

79$ fixed for all HD clips? (Assuming, one, does not have 4K).

e.g.
A common rose,
a licensed model,
a tech clip e.g. dissasembled lens
steady, handheld or sliding shots
everything priced equal?

is it good strategy all prices to be uplifted/downgraded to 79$ max (as and P5 suggests?)

I have started seeing my first accepted exclusive clips online at Pond 5. For now I only upload some clips that are with less offer or no offer to other agencies, as of the time of the upload, editorial or commercial. That is just my interpretation of exclusivity. Pond 5 exclusive for me is not anoher chance to upload widely offered material at a higher price. Being a broadcast video editor at my day job, I also pay great care to all of my stock clips, keeping broadcast safe requirements and all the correction or denoise details i can do to improve. That is not the same as uploading straight out of the camera, despite the different custom profiles I use for day or night. Therefore, I price them higher than the industry standard, but still lower than other exlusive video libraries that range 4K clips from 300 to 500 $. Such a "unique" clip might sell never or once and should be paid accordingly. I have no illusions of repetitive sales on such ones. I also have no intention of uploading another clip of the Eiffel Tower that are already available in thousands and price it higher. That for me is not unique and I doubt it will justify the meaning of exclusive. Why should someone pay higher for that if he can find the same content at another agency? A customer might (we will see what happens in the near exclusive future) be willing to pay higher for a less offered, well executed exclusive clip. I will still upload my non exclusive ones only to agencies that do not pay cents for that.

I don't know about good practices or market values, and mine are not very good or different. Just scenery and POV for now. I just deleted the last video anywhere and I'm 100% Pond5 exclusive.

Mine are 1080p and I left the suggested Pond5 prices. If I do something better or find a demand for something, I will raise prices.

My perspective is from lazy. I only have one agency to worry about, one place to upload video and they are willing to pay me 60%. I'll give that a try and see how the plan works out.  :) I don't have high expectations, but I like the promise of a better rate, if I should sell anything.
