Title: My 10 years old Pond5 account have automatically got deleted
Post by: gemmy12 on July 09, 2021, 19:33
Yes. I had a contributor account which I opened about 10 years back and have been uploading videos and photos there bit in last 1 year I was not uploading very actively. Still I used to log in to see if I got any sale. I could not log in there for last 1 or 2 months and then when I tried to log in it said wrong password. I tried some times and then chose "Forgot password" option to reset the password. But got no email.
When I contacted their support I got reply that I don't have any account associated with my email. I checked in Adobe and there are my videos associated with my ID/Pond5. I sent those links to support but I got their reply saying due to some error my account has been deleted automatically and it can not be reinstated. :-[
Anyone had similar experience in pond 5 ? If so please share what did you do then ?

That's scary, if the account is deleted by some error then the company is liable for it.
They should compensate you or take steps in restoring the account.

Liable for what, just out of interest? If they had unpaid funds then fair enough, those should be paid out, but all agencies have the right to delete accounts at any time, and for any reason, so whether it was a mistake or not... they have no obligation to provide him with an active account.

Does it mean they can delete anyone's account at any time.. even of those with thousands of files and years of work including Big names ? OK I had very small numbers of files but still.. are such mistakes possible ?

Yes agencies can delete an account. They have explained why it is happen in your case.
But: they should take an action if you prove that they continue to have your files on sale after that. Probably one by one. They have to do a choice. This depends from the country where you are and the laws. Or they restore an account or they are liable for IP. I saw a thread with contacts of specialized organizations. You need to evaluate probably with one of them. Good luck.

But their support team said it was deleted due to some error and when they try to recover it, it comes with error so unfortunately you have to create a new account with the same email. Soas I understand my account was not purposely deleted but it was due to some error...

Yes you told this. You cooperate with their support team and hope it will be solved.. Only if they decide to abandon and not pay for the files sold then you can decide on another way. Try to follow instructions of their support first. It is not a beauty solution what they proposed, but try.

Liable to pay the unpaid earning, liable for stopping further earning potential.
Deleting account at any time for any reason is not justified. We should not support such doings.

I don't support such things, but they're entitled to what they're entitled to do, whether we support it or not. And yes, I agreed they should be liable for unpaid funds, but there's nothing you can do about them closing it. Do they owe you any money... have you received any earnings emails with funds that haven't yet been paid out?

No. They don't owe me any funds however. I have accounts in Getty SS IS alamy and in fact in istoxk I have just 1 photo left but still they are alive since I opened them since 2011 12.
I have never heard earlier that some contributors accounts have been closed but those were because of some violation of their rules. Never heard before that someone's account was mistakenly deleted. We have an exclusive account in pond 5 but that's completely separate account where she upload separate files.
Hope my files available in partner sites like Adobe, will be removed soon.
After this accident my wife is now reluctant to upload new content to her account and will soon delete footage containing models.

There just seems to be something missing here.  P5 doesn't just "lose an account" then say, oh well, sorry.  If accounts mysteriously disappear like you say P5 claims, they would be all over it to resolve why.  You think they'd be concerned about other accounts mysteriously disappearing and that is a major concern as a stock agency.  I am not saying you're wrong, but I just don't think we're hearing the whole story.

Reading through this thread just now, I've been thinking the same thing. Something about this just doesn't ring true to me.

I'm not saying somebody's not telling the truth, but more like somebody's gotten something confused. Somehow. Or something.   ???

I don't think there is any genuine violation of their rules on my part.  I can think of just 2 things possible on my part-
(1) we have another exclusive account but many do have exclusive and non exclusive accounts there , so it can't be
(2) I once had requested to delete this account as I was not actively uploading there but as they had asked me while accepting the deletion request that I can reactivate my account if I change my mind in near future so after few days I reactivated my account and start uploading  new contents time to time . Otherwise I don't think if there is any reason.

True, but I'd like an English translation of "they asked me... I can reactivate my account if I changed my mind in the near future..."

He asked to have his account deactivated.

I sent those links to support but I got their reply saying due to some error my account has been deleted automatically and it can not be reinstated. :-[

Some error when they tried to re-instate the account. And his final question was a good one.

Anyone had similar experience in pond 5 ?

Does P5 randomly close and delete accounts for inactivity or no reason? If they do, I'm at risk of being deleted without notice. So has anyone else who didn't ask that their account be closed, also had their account, mysteriously deleted? That could be important to many of us here.

I would say that it's possible there is more to this than meets the eye but selective quoting to try and prove a point doesn't make it any clearer.

Yes you're right.  8) I did that, and shouldn't have. (https://i.postimg.cc/28jPGV4s/knocksense.gif)

Title: "My 10 years old Pond5 account have automatically got deleted " automatically? Some other leading statements that are contradictions. Or maybe something is lost in the translation and I'm just being thick.

But you hit it... there is more to this than meets the eye oh wait, I did it again. "it's possible there is more to this than meets the eye"

Done. I just want to know if this has happened to others and if this is something that P5 does now? Or some kind of odd error because of circumstances?

When I said I deactivated my account .. so deactivation was done in 2020 Nov or December..  then I did get time to upload and have been uploading till last month ( May-June 2021)
If I deactivated my account once 7-9 months back and then it 2as running then still its an active account which was closed. I am guessing that once deactivation may cause some error but still its an error from their side which led me to lose my account.
Anyways I am not going to follow it. I just wanted to know if others faced similar situation and also wanted other forum membera to know that such account termination is possible becauae this forum has been helpful to me since I joined this forum and stock photography agencies (in 2011)

Yeah, the whole thing is a mess, and they probably put through the deactivation and didn't stop it, so something in the system, purged you, after the waiting period, even though the contact was supposed to stop that from happening. I'm agreeing that it's there error. But just noting that you made the request which started the complications. Not blaming you, just that probably, your account wouldn't have been deleted without that. But they were supposed to stop that from happening.

I'm with you on that question: Has this happened to anyone else?

I had a problem with my account a few years when Pond5 merged or bought out another site? I am having trouble remembering the exact details. I ended up with two accounts and unable to login or something. I do recall that it was nightmare getiing them to to sort it and it resulted in my sales tanking (and they have never really recovered).

Thanks for sharing. There must be many other people too who might have similar experience. I searched there forum for old posts and came up that someone whose account was closed a year ago and his/her files were still on sale in Adobe and some other partner sites. That person said he had emailed the support many time but now no reply from them.
Ps- I got reply from p5 saying that they are looking into matter. Wow first clearly said they caouldn't do anything for my closed account and asked me to create new account for my email and now saying they are looking into the matter. Anyways I have lost my faith in p5 too.

Ummm. Maybe it's because the question we were posed and the situation we were asked to provide insights on didn't entirely make sense?

Just a random thought that flitted through my mind as I read your snippy, holier-than-thou, crappy-personality response. But please… don't take it personally!   ;)

It's usually because when somebody says something along the lines of 'my account has been closed for no reason', aside from a few very rare exceptions.... there is always, usually without fail, almost every single time... a reason. A reason which only becomes apparent later in the thread when information is provided that wasn't initially. So while it would be nice to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and go with the premise that there actually is 'no reason' it usually saves a bit of time to question what they're saying.

A random example for you...

"My account was closed for no reason"

100 questions and replies later...

"Ok, so just to clarify, based on what you've told us... your account was actually closed because you have eight different accounts, have been buying your own content, have moved countries 20 times in the last year, you got a bunch of DMCA requests on your content, you now live in North Korea, you have 50 other people with SS accounts using your laptop to log in, you have an approval rating of less than 0.1%, your content is made up of blurred stills from ramdon videos that you found off the internet, and you specifically asked for your account to be closed?"

"Yeah, that's right"

I read your replies in some differnt threads and you always seem to support agencies.. And always saying others that they (stock agencies) have the right to close anyone's account what so ever be the case.. Not sure but feel like you are someone from the other site.. Someone working for agency? And also selling the contents too?

I have told everything here. If you guys think my account was closed because I once deactivated my account then I will again say it was a year back and after that I again started uploading contents and my account was alive. And closing that account by an agency because of some error (what they themselves told), then it was agency's fault and it creates distrust in contributors.
And I don't have 20 accounts as I said I had one nonexcluaive (which was closed) and one exclusive account which is allowed in p5.
If there was some error from my side then p5 could have warned me earlier and I was not messaging here.
I have still not received a constructive reply here (except 1 or 2) other than mostly ppl suspecting my intention. Anyways it doesn't matter. You can submit your work to the sites you want. I also loved p5 but recent changes and what happened to my account doesn't seem fair to me. May be you guys would realise if same thing  happens to your own account. I will better stick to the one agency getty which despite giving low percentage is only seems to be genuine to me in these 10 years of my stock photography journey and everything else including ss and p5 has been following to the same route to downwards for contributors which I imagined years ago.

I see, you know the account was closed due to an error, because the OP told you so? Yet the whole story keeps changing as we read, from automatically deleted, to a small twist that he asked for it to be deleted? And asking questions doesn't mean I don't believe his story, it's because the details are lacking and I'd like to know the facts of how this happened.

It isn't distrust or ganging up to ask for a complete version of some claim, including the details and facts.

Come on, how many of the "my account was closed on... for no reason" messages have you read here, where a simple examination by forum members turns up most of the time, a real reason. Also most of the time, except when people get re-instated because it was an error, the OP never comes back. They just fling out some BS about how they are the victim of injustice and then vanish.

Asking for facts and the truth is a reasonable request when someone comes in making claims and accusations?

Saying that all agencies have the right to shut down accounts for any reason, isn't supporting agencies... it's supporting the truth, because they do have that right. Same with changing the commission rates... which I've also stated on previous occasions and may have contributed to your perception of me.

I mean surely the opposite is considerably worse? I tell everyone what the agencies are doing is highly illegal and it would be an open and shut case in court with a good payday... everyone spends a small fortune pursuing said legal action... and everyone loses?

I guess we could have a 'positive answers only' section of the forum, where everyone tells everyone what they want to hear... where everyone is supportive no matter how wrong the poster may be? Could work.

I'm positive you are right. I was abducted by aliens, from the secret underground society, hiding within the Earth, in a parallel universe, who told me through mental telepathy, It Could Work!

...  it's possible there is more to this than meets the eye  ....

which is why ellipses should be used when quoting to indicate there was a longer original quote (as done above)

... never seen a more distrusting bunch of people than on photography forums, and ganging up on people as well, why is it that stock photographers have such crappy personalities.....

there's also the constant " i didnt get any sales today from X so something must be wrong!"

but it's not limited to photogs - it's a common feature across social media
