I got email from them saying from now exclusive to pond will get 60% and non exclusive go down to 40%. And i thought pond5 is the only fair agency. Such a fool.

I really don't get why they have to have two separate accounts for exclusive and none exclusive content.

Instead of adressing our issues, they just rub extra salt in our wounds and have the guts to present it as a great opportunity for us. They clearly don't want to listen to us.

Which sites pay a higher percentage?

They don't market themselves as "caring so much about artists"

P5 did when they needed to attract more artists. Now they have enough material to become "just business" like everyone else.

I think the problem was that contributors would use Pond5 to get premium prices (prices above the market average) while at the same time selling the same product elsewhere dirt cheap.  Caring for contributors just made them look stupid.

It's also a competitive disadvantage.  Marketing, technology, staff will be less competitive all other things being equal.

Pond5 thought we'd all be gullible enough to fall for their giant red herring

Storyblocks (50%), Envato (45%), Dreamstime (45% for each video with more than 25 downloads), 123RF (up to 60% based on your contributor rank).

Storyblocks promotes its own content and third party sales get less (what % of sales are these and what % do you get?), Envato has about 2% of videos priced at $79 or more and 33% priced at $10 or less, Dreamstime takes about 50 sales of each file to reach 40% on average, 123rf you would need about 90 HD sales a year to reach 40%.  I wouldn't choose any of those sites over P5 besides low sales you almost certainly won't get even the same % but if all your videos on DT have 50 sales, you get 90 HD sales a year at 123RF, and you don't contribute to any of the lower paying sites then by all means you should be upset. ;)

It's not applicable to video, only illustrations and photos.

But I get regular payouts from CreativeMarket which allows to set your own price and pays 70% on each sale, without any "exclusivity".

Following the logic of "supporting only high paying agencies" we should all move there then...

Does P5 pay the same % when they sell through third party like AS and VS?

Honestly don't know I don't think I've had any sales that were lower than 50% of the price on the site.

It matters because contributing to sites that pay less will cause sites that pay more to lower their rates.  If people are working with lower paying sites then they should expect the higher paying ones to follow suit.  It's not just a pay cut because the companies are evil it's a pay cut because they need to stay competitive and they know you don't mind it.  In all honestly how can you complain about 40% if you are already getting 30% somewhere else?

Maybe for you? I just got a raise and removed everything from places that only paid 15-20% before.

I think what some people might be trying to point out is that Pond5 still pays double what most of the industry calls standard.

Yes you are right, they did cut commissions. Seems to be SOP for Microstock sites doesn't it.

Then we write messages on the forum, get indigestion, get angry and nothing changes. Next month someplace else will find another way to reduce our pay and keep more for the company. Nope, I don't like it, but I'm not going to dwell on a change that was announced March 21st by Pond5.

As I have said and others also, many times, if you don't like it, don't supply them. That's not just a nasty comment. I have removed all my files from close to 20 sites. I make selective uploads based on what sites I like or don't. Which means, I stopped uploading to IS just after ESP and Getty, and I'll take the pittance they send me monthly, but I won't send anything new.

We are not victims if we choose to upload or participate, on any sites. We have a choice?

My choice was stick with Pond5 video exclusive, and upload what I think will do best on SS and AS for photos, sometimes toss a bone to AL or DT. That's all. I didn't like the way the others treated me, or the low commission, I walked and took my work with me.

That's the only power and control we have. The choice where we allow our work to be sold. If more people did that, the little parasite and bottom feeding agencies wouldn't have the quality of materials and buyers would eventually migrate to the smaller number of better paying, good content sites.

Thanks for that @swisschocolate looks like they have an entrance limit and selective membership. Nice for starters, holding up quality standards. Not sure what kind of volume I could expect or if I'd be accepted as I see they have some pretty good conceptual and art images. Certainly not the usual Microstock material.

But this is as close to that Virtual Agency as anyplace I've seen. I mean, if someone is accepted, they can upload, get put up for sale immediately, self review, 70% return on sales. I'n not sure about the details, because, for example, I see Porsche and other brands and makes of cars. Are those editorial? I couldn't quite tell how they were licensed.

Meanwhile I need to make a collection of images, that might be the kind they want and make a link for that. I surely wouldn't want to have them looking at greasy pizza, cheeseburgers or burned french fries. I'm thinking along the lines of scenic and landscapes.

I'd like 70% of some occasional sales just fine. Kind of like Alamy was about ten years ago.

Perfect answer for the kind of agency I'd like to support, if they will take me.

You're welcome :) and good luck.
Though, they aren't that well optimized for photos, much better for design elements, templates etc. But they worth uploading and they sell.
