I think every exclusivity is quite a risky business for a contributor since you will depend on a single site who can easily ruin whole sales in one day just because they are  trying out some new 'exciting' things. Let's have a look at Pond's recent background: several months reviews, spontaneus rejections ALWAYS fixed after second submission, high rejections for many contributors (I haven't experienced them myself though), membership program, new licences anounce. They act like a 4-years old boy in a spacecraft just trying to push every button available. Now they found 'Turn exclusivity on'...

Yeah it makes no sense, P5 sales represent just a small part from my stock income. Even 100% royalties wouldn't make me consider exclusivity.
Maybe if they are prepared to guarantee a certain income. Which wouldn't make sense for them because they don't have the traffic for that.

Well, regardless of what you do, congrats.  That means you have some cool video work.

Their email does not say why we should be exclusive. I emailed back to say I would be interested in learning more.

It doesn't hurt to know what the terms are.

Thanks Mantis but I actually thought everyone would get this mail, the wording seems rather general.

Communication manager failed yet again to deliver reasonable email to the masses.
What a time waste, to get so many same replies, tell me more about it.

One got to wonder do they do any better talking to the buyers.

Looks like Exclusivity is only for your best clips. Doing a search for artist:[username], then setting the Exclusivity flag, gives only a small fraction of the portfolio (i.e. all footage clips = 8852, exclusive clips = 162).

Anyway, I submitted the form, I'm willing to know more and only after that I will decide what to do (or not to do).

Yea I did some random searches and filtered on exclusive and a lot of the work was, well, not too impressive.  It reminded me of Istock calling their exclusive collection the "premium collection" just because someone goes exclusive.......their work is somehow better than those who choose to not go exclusive.

I had a look too at the exclusive: mostly pretty average clips: loads of repetitions, amateurish time lapses, aereal shots made with gopro with huge distortion, horrible light, bland lifestyle clips. Most of them would not be accepted in most agencies.
So basically in only a few months P5 mede the membership program and 80% of the global sales went lost in the stupid program with huge loss for artists and for P5 as well. Then they advanced the contributor artists in the search squeezing out non participating ones. Then, as customers became aware of the crazy prices in the membership, even participating members started to complain about poor sales. Now they put up "exclusive" bad stuff pushing up the artists, so even previous participating members will be squeezed out as well.
What a mess!!!
I forgot that in the meantime they encouraged artists to price their clips much higher and now they come out with a so called premium collection at lower prices, while in the membership customers can have clips practically for free.
Confusion, confusion, confusion

Well, they will experiment until $ runs out, then goes acquisition. Remember my words!  8)

Not sure if everyone already knows this, but the only thing I figured out aside from what was in the email is that for the exclusive collection, HD starts from $99. Not sure if they set the prices, or you can set the prices as long as it's $99 or more. But there you go.

what will happen to the non exclusive royalties?

will they be lowered?

or will they raise exclusive to more than 50%?

or will they raise exclusive to more than 50%?

That's really the question to answer because at this time we could all just raise our prices to $99 and the customer would want to know what they are getting for an exclusive clip vs. non exclusive clip.  So I believe there is more to come. Pricing will be more controlled in some manner or, as you've stated. I think we will be looking at a total make over for pricing mainly because:

Exclusive clip at $99:  Assuming a 50% commission artist gets $49.50.  As a non exclusive, I start pricing my clips at $99 and my commission is $49.50.  Perhaps that is what P5 is looking to do to make more money, but the customer will see exclusive content at $99 and possibly some non exclusive clips at $99. Well not possibly, I have HD clips priced over $100. So I don't get the P5 angle yet. For an exclusive product you usually pay more for perceived value, then they have the "bargain" clips which can be priced the same.

If the idea is to give a bigger commission to exclusives, say, 60%, that doesn't make sense either.  In the above scenario P5 would make more with a non-exclusive. Obviously I am assuming that we non exclusives have the freedom to still price our clips at whatever we want, so we follow their lead and start pricing at $99.  So this can't be the angle.

I think we will see pricing ceilings for HD non-exclusives and also minimums.  Say $49-$79 at 50%, and exclusives at $99 for HD @ $99 at 50%.  I just don't think P5 would give the perceived value that non exclusive clips are as good by allowing us to price them the same or higher than their exclusive collection.

Now, I will end by saying this: Here we have a situation where an agency is actually trying to get prices up and I totally respect them for this and they have my support. I have not been invited to their exclusive program, but by them even suggesting that non exclusives raise prices a bit is a good thing. If they are successful perhaps other agencies may follow in time, doubtful, but possible.

I understand them wanting prices up as P5 artists have priced a ton of $10 and $5 clips/vids!

Edits for grammar and clear point 😊

As far as being exclusive I don't think there is an agency left that hasn't mucked up or created enough  sales volume to make it worth it, at this point in time.

I was honestly puzzled and disappointed to read that email. It lacks to provide any points on why we should consider this offer.
