p5 now accepting photos, and you can set your own price!

Thats put a cat amongst the pidgeons!

didnt they partner with 123rf? if i have work on 123rf that is mirrored on p5 will that cause a conflict of interest??

Finally some good news and from a decent agency as well. Set your own price and... best of all, 50 percent royalty!

Did you see in their FAQ that the color space must be Adobe RGB. I suspect that I am like most stock contributors and have set all my JPEGs to sRGB. I've asked a question on their site about how strict this rule is.

I doubt they will be very strict with this, they don't do rejections do they?

beside the rRGB issue, i have noticed a few other things looking at my portfolio there from 123RF

- portfolio there since 2011-02-22 23:01 (looks like everybody has the same date)
- 123RF (4577 files) pond5 (3692 files)
- 22 downloads
- only 83 files have 1 or more views

Yes - I see that I have 1620 files on Pond5 compared with 3242 on 123RF. I hadn't realized that there was a deal between the two of them. I see some downloads as well (37 - a few more than you!!), but presumably these have all been paid through 123RF. How on earth are we supposed to upload directly to Pond5 without creating a lot of duplicates?

have no idea but i believe it is still soon to dream with many sales there, my 22 show how they sell comparing to 123RF (which is actually down lately), i believe it would be better for us/them to end the partnership perhaps

I strongly assume that Pond5 has some sort of duplicate prevention system in place to push 123RF duplicates out of their site.

Obviously Pond5 wants to get the bigger piece of the pie without paying 123RF so hopefully direct uploads are prioritized.

I saw the Adobe colour space and thought it was a mistake. Thankfully i have a wide gamut range monitor. However it will be a pain to edit pics in two different colour spaces.

Surely they'll accept sRGB?  Going to upload a few to find out.

Could it be though that they intend to compete on the basis of aRGB files and set themselves aside from the competition. Most designers would use a wide gamut range monitor wouldnt they?

I believe iStock sell M and above images as aRGB for print and Sm and XSm as sRGB for screen (?)

I very much doubt it.  Doesn't make any sense for all of us that have sRGB files to have to convert them all to aRGB.  They're sensible, so I presume they meant sRGB OK as well, they just don't want people to upload CMYK or other inappropriate color profiles.

So the deal seems to be as follows:
1. there is no mechanism to identify or prevent duplicate images coming from 123rf and directly submitted to pond5. Pond5 does not physically store photos from 123rf, they are displayed via API. pond5 will review and approve photos based on their individual merit only
2. As a photographer, you can opt out of 123rd's partner sales and start submitting directly to pond5. The problem is when opting out, you are opting out of all partner sales, not just pond5
--------
I think sooner or later pond5 will have to address this issue in a better way. particularly if buyers searching for photos start seeing more often the same photos pop up twice in their search results and priced differently

^^^ I have no problem opting out of all 123RF third party sites.  We get a tiny commission, after 123RF and the third party site take their share.  Hopefully the 50% with Pond5 will cover that.  If 123RF go ahead with their commission cut, I might not bother uploading to them anymore.

thats very soon to predict good sales at pond5, sure they have buyers but they arent properly into pictures, at least for now

I think you need to contact p5 support for clarification on this one. I cant imagine that have didnt think of this issue before starting their new campaign.

Yeah, before I drive myself crazy finding this info:

Where are the sales of 123RF photos at Pond5 reported?
