I received  an email with the invitation to participate to this Pond5 Limited Licensing Program.

"...Over the last year, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of companies requesting content specifically for digital-only, short-form, ad-supported projects. To make sure our Artists can capitalize on this trend, we are introducing the Limited Licensing Program. This program will provide these buyers access to a range of clips and media for a set fee, in exchange for highly restrictive use."

No news about prices. Apparently You can opt out after the program will start

Anybody else did?
Thoughts?

With every new program, we only see fewer sales. We also received this email.

I sent a mail to ask them how  can they check if the e restriction terms are respected by the consumers  and what is going to be the price of the clips under LLP

Sounds like a time limited license like on Getty. The ones were we get paid 68 cents....

As long as they make it optional and don't force anyone into a program, they can offer what they want.

The ideal solution would probably be to allow artist to pick individual files for such a license. If you have very old content or files that haven't sold in ten years, you can place them in such a program.

But the more agencies offer these ultracheap options, the more prices will drop everywhere.

I think it's by invite only at this time.

Don't do it, P5. It's nice having a handful of agencies with healthy prices that you actually don't feel guilty submitting to.

I don't see the problem with Pond5 offering this kind of time-limited license. It's not necessarily a bad deal for contributors. Of course it's lower royalties per license than a standard license because this is time-limited. Apparently there's a demand from their customers, so why wouldn't they offer it?

How can Pond5 control any kind of misuse of the license? Our clips are not like movie that you rent and than automatically disappear after use.
Anybody can download our clips and then use them as long as they want. Who can check it?

No different from today. Or last year. Or ever. Still, we see plenty of extended licenses.

Serious buyers will do the right thing. Not so serious buyers will ALWAYS find a way to cheat. Always. There is little we can do about it.

Bit early to write it off. Sounds pretty bad on the face of it, but if it means clips are ten times cheaper, for example... but you get twenty times more sales, then it's maybe not all that bad. I will reserve judgement for now.

Exactly, who is going to check to see if they stop using it under the specified time frame ... No one. It's just a way for them to make more money and we make less.

I opted out. I clicked the link to read more about the program - https://limited-licensing-program.pond5.com/

It's clear from what it says there that the clips will be sold at a lower rate (so lower commission), and I echo the concerns of others that this could be abused by buyers re-using our content or buying there to avoid paying full price. Sounds like a risky program, and there's not much gain. Opt out instructions are on that page:

Can I opt out?
Yes. All of Pond5s incremental revenue programs are fully optional. You can opt out of the program on your Preferences Page by un-checking the Limited Licensing Program checkbox.

Go to Account, then Preferences. Limited License Program is now listed there.

Thats the wishful thinking that lures people into this kind of a bad idea, but its never in any case i can recall led to more sales. Only one sided.

Does anyone know the pricing for the limited licenses?

There is also a tab that I didn't notice before.

Optimized Marketplace Pricing
Yes! I would like for Pond5 to price my Content and modify my prices - up and/or down, to take advantage of trends in the marketplace to capture incremental revenue opportunities. Please see section 3 of the Contributor Agreement for additional details.

Anybody opted in to this?

Haven't tried it, but I'm interested in hearing where it puts prices, and how they are determined.

In my case the most profitable agency is Shutterstock, there I got sales of very different values so low like 6/7 $ up to 100 $ which .
Globally gives me at least 5 times more than Pond5, so does it depend from the prices'?
I think it depends from the search algorithm. When I buy clip I find easier the search results in SS.

1. Sales under this program will be custom negotiated by our Direct Sales organization...so it is direct negotiation
2.Revenue from this program will be divided 50/50 with Artists based on the content downloaded by our customers
