Hi,
I'm brand new to Pond5, and I've spent some time roaming around the site but I need some help and was hoping I could get some answers from the experts!

I uploaded some photos and now they require editing. As I look at the Editing page, my first Q pertains to Options: Apply Template. What is that all about? Can someone give me a link that would explain in more detail what this is all about?

Next, price - if I set a price by me, can it be changed later, either higher or lower?

Next, "Add to Collections"....are these collections similar to Lightboxes theory that the photographer creates?

And finally, I keep reading about creating a thumbnail, not sure what that is all about and why...again is there a link that would give more information on what that is all about?

Many thanks,
Ruth

I have never used a template.  I do all my editing on that main upload page.  Yes, you can reset the price at any time.  Never made a collection or worried about thumbnails.

The system was originally made for videos, and they forced it to work for photos.  Hopefully, they'll take some of their recent windfall and update the site.

Hi,

Can someone give me a link that would explain in more detail what this is all about? A template is a pre defined input (price, etc). You can set it, then apply that to all of your images if you want.  Essentially one click for a batch instead of multiple clicks per image. I don't use it as my volume is small enough per upload and I set different prices for different images.

Next, price - if I set a price by me, can it be changed later, either higher or lower? Yes

Next, "Add to Collections"....are these collections similar to Lightboxes theory that the photographer creates? I don't use this but its for those who have a special series they would like to put into a collection (or light box kinda thing). For example, I might create a collection of great white shark images.

And finally, I keep reading about creating a thumbnail, not sure what that is all about and why...again is there a link that would give more information on what that is all about? Thumbnails are for video only.

Many thanks,
Ruth

Thank you both for your quick and most helpful information.  The site does seem to be geared mostly to video.

Many thanks,
Ruth

Pond 5 isn't intuitive for photographers. They could make it much more user friendly. Some of the layout and terminology used during upload could only make sense to the guys that designed the website!

I agree, most of the information is set up for Video.  I just uploaded an Editorial image and I'm not sure if I did it right, I just followed the same procedure I did as a commercial RF image.  There doesn't seem to be a distinction between Commercial images and Editorial images.  Haven't gotten to uploading Releases yet (I guess I'll have to muddle through that too).  Couldn't find any info on how to set up an Editorial image.  I guess they will tell me when I'm wrong.  It seems like a good site, I like the idea of setting my own prices.  Thanks for the input.

Ruth

i have 2 b getting old for all this, but yes, in consensus to those who say P5 (and other new sites) the procedure is kind of confusing or somewhat like those sites in the initial days of the web where the flash sites of music artists was nothing more but to show off the webdesigner's smarts. it does nothing for the musician who paid that person to design the page for their fans.

i am not sure why they cannot be like Shutterstock and the others that is straight-forward. maybe it is because with some sites, it is a one-stop-for-all and maybe it is the default design like you get with design your own site with our templates.
and we thought IStock was complicated in 2005,lol.

yes, it would be nice if P5 et al simplify their submission format ie. upload, fill description, keyword, etc.. submit. viola !!!

While I like P5, they really aren't strong in still imagery.  I sell an occasional images and only an occasional video.  I am working to build my video collection and make P5 a key player in my list.
