Title: Best sites for selling Prints
Post by: Tror on October 06, 2015, 08:39
Apart from FAA and Zazzle, which are the best sites for selling Prints? Any recommendations? Thanks! :-)

I've had multiple sales on redbubble where I have a very small portfolio, one large sale on Crated, and have some UK friends who sell a lot on P4  - I make the most on FAA - I'm not on zazzle - that's it for my experience.

Interested to know other's experience.

Has anyone heard of eagalart? They look to be a new Canadian site.

I found some of my photos sold as prints on Amazon. I wonder if that is even legal.

Anyway, you can probably do the same, with your own photos, yourself.

I looked at eagalart, it seems a pretty well designed site, but no IPTC metadata, too bad. What's the link to P4? Could you please post it, thanks.

Redbubble also doesn't read IPTC so forget them.   I wish Crated had started making sense, but that seems not to have happened.   It isn't a photo site, it's an 'art' site, and they still play that weird game of behind-the-scenes curation, i.e. if they don't 'like you', you don't show up in search.

I sell one on FAA now and then, but the trend seems to be down.  They're increasingly featuring their "collections" which have no open submission process. And there's sooo much junk there, and more every day.

Elena, I assume Wordplanet is referring to www.photo4me.com (http://www.photo4me.com)(a British POD site). I have no experience of them so cannot add any opinion of them. Kind regards, David.

Hi Elena - I see David answered your question re P4. Sorry been running around the last few days and just saw your question.

I haven't uploaded anything new to www.photo4me.com (http://www.photo4me.com) in over a year, but as I mentioned some UK photographers I know are doing nicely there selling UK landscapes, wildlife and farm images.
I forgot to mention the ITPC thing with redbubble - that's why I haven't done much with them either. I haven't had a lot of curated photos on Crated but my portfolio was "curated" or "accepted" or whatever and my work shows up in a lot of their collections and in searches, which seems more promising than FAA, though I've sold more on FAA. I've had four gallery shows in Westchester and Putnam counties in NY so far this year, so my prices on FAA and Crated tend to be on the higher end for work that's similar to what I'm selling locally - that may discourage some sales though I'm not sure. I feel like my work is drowning on FAA - it rarely shows in searches, so I'm amazed that I have sales. Then again, it seems to be featured nicely on Crated and it's been nearly a year since I had a sale there.
On RB I have a small portfolio of mostly design and micro stuff and I tend to sell posters. And mugs, iPhone cases - I sell some products on FAA too but more framed prints there than anything else.

Interested to hear people's experience with Saatchi - do you have to give them work exclusively? Can you sell/show it yourself? Do they do all the pricing? And the all important, Have you made sales?

I think the biggest problem with the POD sites is that they expect you to do the advertising for them. I ran a bunch of sales and tweeted my stuff - shared on other social media - and I felt like I was yelling into the void - only got a handful of sales that I can attribute to my efforts - most were blind luck I think.  I'm guessing with Saatchi they advertise for you?

Hello

I'm thinking about open the Zazzle account and put my photos on prints wall card postcards etc. Do You have any experience with this kind of material on Zazzle - is it worth the effort and time ?

I've dabbled and I can't say its worth it for me but think some people do OK it probably depends on your work and whether you have a good feel of what might sell there I sell a few postcards but no real income from that. I just find it makes a change from the same old stock. Never sold a print.
