Is it true that you can only send up one photo at a time? I can't find any ftp (and I saw in the forum here that this doesn't exist) but I can't find any bulk(ish) upload system either.
Surely not just one at a time....or is it?

You can upload 5 at a time, on the 'upload multiple images' button, but they go up one at a time. Sometimes they don't all go up, though.  ::)

Also, the site frequently peters out after you upload, often telling your session has timed out or that "they are undergoing site maintenance" and you will end up re-uploading a lot.  It's the one thing that frustrates me the most about FAA.....that and not enough sales.

They never acknowledged the problem, as they do wit a lot of bugs, but many people were complaining. I had the same frustrations, but lately I get 100% success on uploads. So maybe he finally fixed it.

Your upload speed is important. The time-out happens after 30 minutes, I had a lot of problems with that before I upgraded my connection.

I had time outs on a 100mb/s connection, 10mb/s upload.

Same here.  I have a really fast cable connection and I still get the errors.

Yes - I left the screen up to do something else for a while - came back - and found that timed out message too! So I'm pleased you posted about it! I have no idea what to expect from sales - but compared to Zazzle (which I abandoned) it is, at least LARGELY straightforward!

Oops - something else I forgot to ask. Are they ok with SRGB or do they want Adobe?
Cheers!

Upload question here.

I try to upload 5 (or 1) files and submit process is stuck. Is it only me?
Used to have upload problems with few files before but never all batch at once.

I can:
upload, edit, click on submit and it goes, and goes, and goes... please wait.......... and that's it.
Use Firefox with windows.

For me it seems to work better to upload when it is night in the US and Canada...

Yes, agree.  I constantly get timed out errors and other errors and usually have to upload twice on 50% of the images.  FAA has died a quick death for me, so I am closing my account after this year. He isn't getting anymore membership money from me.

This has been going on intermittently for months.  I get the feeling that McDunn is stretched way too thin and problems with the site are being ignored as he pursues projects like licensing that go nowhere.

The site looks very tired and dated, and contributor complaints are increasing.  They've been teasing a 'major' upgrade to the site since forever but all we ever see are minor changes.

It's interesting that they no longer allow forum threads about other POD agencies,

Yes and new uploads go right to the back.  Stupid.

There was a thread on FAA recently where contributors complained that their new photos didn't show up in search at all - it looks like search stops after maybe 1000 hits, and ranking is all about previous sales, so new stuff has zero chance of being found unless it's an uncommon subject.

After few hours it works correctly. Must have been some temporary technical problem. I managed to upload and submit new stuff.

As you say, this site looks old and tired and needs some changes, it needs more new technical work. However it's the best POD site I know now. I thought Crated will do something new, but as we can see, they don't care a lot ;)

Hope FAA will get up and do good work soon.

as far as i know their backend CMS was custom coded by one of their co-founders, he's a skilled coder but their CMS was never meant to be scalable to such a huge number of files and users.

the only solution is a complete rewrite or porting the whole cr-ap to a bigger and more stable commercial CMS, but good luck with that ... not gonna happen anytime soon and as you noticed they're in total denial about performance and other technical issues ..

Thanks for that explanation.  I just removed my credit card so they can't auto renew.  It's really unfair that the owner does not invest in their site when he is freely taking our money.  The search is in no way fair and I believe he just killed FAA.  Pitty.

I asked if the search had changed but I didnt get a clear answer. My sales have pretty much dried up since December. Only 3 sales this year, I was at 3 sales per month.

Similar experience here, Ron. In December I made my last sale, none since.

FAA desperately needs some serious competition.   But Crated isn't going to be the one.

FAA lets anyone upload anything, so good photos are buried in repetitious junk, and the site design is straight from the 90s.  Crated.com says they "curate" but it looks like they'll be narrowly focused on their own concept of gallery art; that's too limiting and won't generate much traffic.

We need a new POD that has a clean modern site design, and accepts photos on the basis of quality, but doesn't restrict them by subject, style or one person's idea of 'artiness".

instead of complaining 24h/7 days a week regarding all agencies why don't you open one?
