Just uploaded a couple of new pieces and got an email within minutes that one was "Curated" It's currently the first one on the Discover Curated Art page here http://crated.com/search/curated?ref=fp_rb_secondary_copy

Also found out they only charge $14 for shipping within the US even on several framed prints. Just had a fine art gallery opening last night and wish I'd realized their wholesale prices and great shipping deal on framed prints!

Went from BMY to WMY on SS from Sept to Oct, so nice to be posting some good news! Seem to be selling more fine art these days so maybe that's where I should channel my energy for a while.

Did they ever come up with an approval process that made sense?

Is 'curation' per-image?  I thought it was all or nothing for a contributor.

Having your work come up in searches is an all or nothing thing by portfolio - but curation is by image. At least that's my understanding.

Nice site but there don't seem to be many buyers. Three months ago I uploaded several hundred of my better artsy images and haven't sold a thing. These same images sell well elsewhere.

My image "Falling Blue" was curated a couple of weeks ago too https://crated.com/art/104968/falling-blue-by-silkenphotography.  No sales from it though unfortunately.

Lovely abstract!

Now that their system reads ITPC data the upload process is really fast so I'm hoping to grow my portfolio there. I only have 17 images on Crated, including the 3 I just uploaded, so I don't anticipate seeing sales right away. I'm happy that they're promoting one of my photos for me today but I don't expect sales to come flooding in. Was just curious how others were faring and glad you've shared your experiences.

Sold a 3' x 3' acrylic on FAA last week but it's harder and harder to get your stuff seen there. Still sticking with them but I'd hate to see the POD market become the province of just one or two sites.  We've seen how well that's worked out for photographers in the stock photo industry. I'm rooting for Crated to give the other POD sites some competition. That works to our advantage as photographers. Since we get to set our own prices we're not undercutting our own work by selling it on more venues, but hopefully having it seen by more potential buyers instead.

I thought "curated" meant that you'd appear in searches.  If not, what does it mean? That you're featured somehow?

But if their acceptance process hasn't changed - in other words, if they still have no comprehensible process - then it doesn't matter because I'm not wasting any more time with them.  I wasted quite a bit before I realized that the Search box on my page turned up only featured contributors, not me.

There are three levels, you can join crated and may not end up in searches, if your gallery is "promoted" when you get accepted, then all your images will show up in searches. If an image is "Curated" then it is featured on the homepage and moves from the top to the bottom as new images are "curated," but it will come up in searches and be featured if a potential buyer looks for curated images. So, a "promoted" gallery is what you need to show up in searches and "curated" images get an extra boost.

I have some friends who've sold through crated, no sales for me yet - but I only have 17 promoted images, one curated. Will have to give it some time.

Is all of that official, or just what you've deduced from experience?

So if your Gallery isn't 'promoted' when you are first accepted then  you will never ever be seen by the public (though you could point your frinds there) - so you may as well not bother.....

Is that right?

What I said is what I've deduced from the info they have online. I'm not sure if your portfolio can be "promoted" at any time or if it's when you first upload. I'm seeing more people I know from FAA get their work "Curated" and some have sales, but I still have a small port there and not much experience. Eggs in many baskets right now but figuring that it's worth uploading to POD sites before the holidays. The fact that it's a new site and doing okay at this point is encouraging. I like that they are more finicky than FAA where I feel like my work is being drowned out by the huge volume though occasional sales there, but fewer than in the past.

Thanks wordplanet.   They could clear this all up in a minute with a one-paragraph explanation.  But that wouldn't be 'cool' I guess.

I'll look at them again when something there starts making sense.

There were explanations of the curation and acceptance process in another long thread on here, which is where I got my understanding of the process from, and my experience has matched the expectations that they've set (though perhaps not in sales, but I haven't uploaded as much as I'd like to have by now as well).  They're extremely good at replying to support questions too, so if you're in doubt you could just ask them directly.

Anyway, back on topic, another of mine was curated on the front page today http://crated.com/art/19833/story-bridge-traffic-by-silkenphotography.  So far I have a few extra people "collecting" it, but no sales.

I don't recall any explanations of 'curation' etc. that came from an actual Crated representative.

Like many people I ended up in confusion after initially being 'accepted' after supplying a link to my web site as requested - then realizing later that I wasn't showing up in search.  I then exchanged a number of emails with a support person.  He was friendly and polite, but couldn't give me a coherent explanation of the process - if indeed there was one.  I sensed that there were limits to what he was allowed to say.  About the best he could do was to say that some of my stuff was what they wanted, and some wasn't, and that I could keep trying.  Whatever that meant.

I gave up and deleted everything that I'd uploaded.

Feeling very happy with Crated at the moment. Had a nice sale on Christmas Day of a medium framed print. Didn't think it was one I'd promoted but found it today on the first page of the "photography" collection, so they promoted it for me. Am seeing some of my other work in collections there too - and it seems like these collections are pretty fluid so it's nice to have my work recognized.

If you want to see the one I sold, it's here: https://crated.com/art/123600/castle-hill-lighthouse-i-by-mariannecampolongo?product=FP&size=26|19&frame=BF&edge=250MA

It seems like they curate and collect a wide spectrum of art. Their SM buttons let the photo show up and you can still add hashtags to the end without losing the image, making it easier to promote your own work as well. For a new site, they seem to be doing nicely. I joined when they opened so it was several months before making a sale, but given their newness and my small portfolio, I am happy with how they are doing. It took me all month on SS to earn around the same as that one sale.

Anyone else have sales there recently? Hoping it's a harbinger of good things to come  8)
