Title: Sold one business card again! :D
Post by: Dreamframer on January 06, 2009, 09:37
Hey guys, with only 28 business cards in my portfolio, I already have 2 sales in 2 months! I earned 10$ this way. Right now for me, printbusinesscards.com are better seller for me than half microstock sites I'm in!

That's fantastic. I also sold two cards - both made out of (cropped) photos that were previously rejected in microstock.

And sure enough, there are a few MS sites in which I haven't reached $10 as of yet, so PBC has proved a better business!

Yeah, I must agree. I have sold three BC so far.

This looks interesting.  It is an invite-only site, right? I think I got an invitation to contribute months ago.

I think you can join without invitation.

I just sold 3 myself. Your right, I'm making more here than in the up and coming sites.

never sold anything there since november. For me, 100% waste of time for now.

How that thing works? The only information I have found is for customers/byers.

For those who want to sell their photo on business cards or many other types of goodies, I would recommand Zazzle. I sell more on Zazzle than on 123 or BigStock and this month until now more than on any microstock site (but I may just be lucky this time).

But it's quite fun to create design... quite a different business than microstock.

An interesting point: you can freely choose your commission. Il you want to earn 99%, you can (but I would bet you will not sell anything for this price).

Yes, two right buttons. But I use the wrong one  ;)

Araminta, I have an account in Zazzle and created a couple of items there, but I found it very time-consuming.  It's been two years perhaps, I sold one card long ago making me 30c. Anyway, did they make it any easier to create anything there?

Yes: you can now quickly create many products (one of each category) from a single image or design based on pre-defined templates or your own templates (but I haven't used this option yet).

I do not sell a lot and it is time consuming indeed, but it is a different business compared to microstock and if you feel creative, you can do whatever you want here without any risk of being rejected by reviewers  ;D

And this month, I've earned until now (9 days) as much as a normal full month at DT... but I suspect I'm just lucky.

I've got a gallery at Zazzle with  three hundred products, I've sold a little their. I've got one payout coming which is $25 and working on the second.

I think I have like 70 cards online, and the most I'll make is one or two sales a month.  One month I made a $20 artwork sale, along with a card which was nice.  I honestly don't have the time to make more cards - it's not just the formatting part, but the upload process there is kind of a pain as well.  I spent enough time uploading, and the return hasn't been worthwhile enough for me to keep going (taking away time from my other micros that do make money).

Hi! I'm a new member here. I had seen this print business card site talked about on another site. When I checked it out, I couldn't figure out how to sign on as a contributor of card designs. I emailed them at support but never got a response. Someone said above that it was by invitation only. Is that true? If not, could someone give me some more specific instructions as to how to start up with them? The home page isn't really clear on that. Thanks!

Thank you SO much! I will do that. I was excited about the possibility of this site when I first heard about it.

Yay! Finally sold one. I'll make some more now. Only had about 30 and it seems that simpler is best.

Yes! Or even parts of photos that were never used.

It doesn't take much time at all to set up the artwork. I have a psd template that has the business card size plus the bleed built in and add new layers for new designs.

Just wanted to say thank you for letting us all know about this site. I've sold four cards in about as many months. It's a small but the sales are steadily building. They are also one of the easiest sites on the internet to work with.

That site is so awkward.  They badly need to make it better.    Especially for contributors.   Where do I check for sales? Status report I figured.  It´s all white for now. Why not print a zero or something, so you know your at the right place...  If I get a sale or twenty I might be happier :P

Think I have like 60-80 cards on there, I sell maybe 1 or 2 a month.  Not worth my time right now to make more.  Upload process there is a pain, no auto IPTC nothing like that.  CMYK tiff, specific formatting for their site - that means more time spent catering to one place.  I submit to 21 other agencies, and those I actually make money on.

I would love to try there but don't have the software to convert to CMYK. I use PSE and Lightroom 2.0. Have corresponded with them several times about whether they had some other format in place to get around the conversion (i.e. they converted once jpg or tiff uploaded, etc.), but apparently they don't. Can't afford right now to buy anymore software. That's too bad.

Graficalyminded, are any of the other 21 agencies you submit to similar to the business card site? One that doesn't require CMYK conversion first? If so, I would be very interested in information on them.

You could try Gimp which is free and then find a plugin that converts to cmyk - haven't tried it but I believe its possible.

21 agencies sounds crazy - I think its made Graficalyminded a bit crazy looking at his avatar ;)

You can use Imagemagick for converting color spaces. Here is a link:

Since they redesigned the site and hid the links to artists ports away in the Community section with the forums, sales have dried up. I hardly sell anything there now.  >:(

I think you can convert your Tiffs in PS to CMYK by first picking the "convert to profile" and choosing the method they want like "U.S. web coated swope v2" once you have it in the right profile then go to "assign to profile" now change the profile to "working cmyk" that should get you a cmyk but you need to know what cmyk format they want it in for press. That is what you picked when you assigned your profile. U.S. web coated and sheet fed are widely used but it depends on your printer. They can always tweak it at press as long as they have a good cmyk file to work from. Hope this helps, not my specialty.

Best,
Jonathan

All I do to convert the photo is –> Image –> Mode –> CMYK Color

I kinda got the impression that the person asking the question does not have access to Photoshop.
