Shutterstock.com / Business account - pros and cons
« on: September 01, 2023, 13:54 »
Does any of you have a business account on Shutterstock, or have you converted a personal account into a business one? I'm contemplating the pros and cons of switching from a personal to a business account.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth it? Are there any benefits associated with it?
I'll just mention that I run a business (outside of the US), and if I switch to a business account, I could potentially list all the expenses related to creating stock videos as deductible costs for my business.

I don't know what peanuts means to you, but I don't mind mine 50$ I've just got... Of course, if it's only for previous month?

Pond5 / Re: Reported sale outside of usual reporting cycle
« on: December 06, 2022, 15:48 »
My Pond5 sales always report once a day at 10.39am AEST or 11.39am AEDT. However, for the first time I've seen a sale dropped in at 1.45 am AEDT. Not complaining, it's just unusual. Maybe all my customers are typically from my area of the world so sales always happen within the usual hours in the reporting cycle. And the commission was pretty good at $58.86. Anyone else have sales report more than once a day?

I've got notification about 2 sales today at similar time. Maybe these are some kind of "lost and found" sales?

I admire your optimism and spirit.

Im treating it with the harshest realism I can find. I literally shoot stock these days memorizing you said youll keep doing it hardcore even if the crazy numbers will stop. (Hoping for better days).  I doubt if I will ever have a BME ever again anywhere but I know it is happening to others, and maybe it will flip back, no one knows and I have little hope for that to happen, but its an obsession, I shoot stock and it pays well even now.

I like your attitude, it is very uplifting :) Could you tell me how big is your footage portfolio?

Thats what I dont get, they could easily get that shot for500-600$ by hiring someone to shoot it. Definitely not a rare subject, tons of similar options online. I was just lucky I guess.

So probably time was the main factor. If someone is in big rush, money plays secondary role :)

Got a 3000$ sale yesterday, feels a bit over the top in terms of high sale, previous record was 600$ a couple of months back.

You're lucky, lucky duck :D Congrats!

I, on the other hand, recently have only teeny tiny sales and none of big fat sales. But this is November, and for me November is always low in big fat sales...

Anyway... waiting for December to get what is mine :D

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe profits more than double in latest quarter
« on: November 07, 2022, 10:06 »
Adobe is killing my earnings with those small sales. Much worse then Shutterstock  >:(

I've notice, that while people selling photos are raving about Adobe, but as a video creator my earnings at Adobe (despite of increasing portfolio) still decrease. While on SS I'm doubling my earnings every year, mostly because of those 150-300$/video sales
Yup, the $2 video sales have been absolutely disheartening. Adobe used to be an amazing place for vidoes, but this seems to be a massive step (along with the $8 buyout for free collection) in the race to the bottom

I don't mind $2 video sales, as long as I can count for more higher sales (just like on SS) but on Adobe lately, the highest sales I had was $25 (and it's very rare unfortunately...)

While on SS I'm doubling my earnings every year, mostly because of those 150-300$/video sales
What 150-300 dollars are you talking about. There are no such amounts on SS for a long time.
Well, but I still have. At least once a month I'm having $150 or higher video sale, and few $50-$70 sales. I can't remember when I had such a sale on Adobe :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Adobe sales are very slow.
« on: December 20, 2021, 06:05 »
For me it looks like that AS doesn't like videos, or just can't handle with them (in selling).
At the beginning of 2020 I have 470 videos at AS, and at the end around 1000. I earned 840$ (not much, but let say it was "start-up period".
But this year? Increasing my portfolio to 1800 videos and decreasing my income to 500$ says a lot. With the same size of portfolio at SS my incomes there are more than 10 times better! MORE THAN 10 TIMES!

Does anyone with video portfolio have similar experience? Or I just don't have luck with AS algorithms...

General - Stock Video / Re: Shutterstock video sales
« on: November 09, 2021, 07:11 »
I'm trying to keep my stats clean, so maybe my conclusions will be uplifting for those, who keeps uploading quality content;)
Year 2019 I ended up with 500 videos in my SS portfolio. 2020 ended with 940 and now in 2021 I have 1500 videos. I can see clearly, that as my portfolio grows, my income grows equally and surprisingly - mostly on SS (despite of fact, that the same portfolio I have on Pond5 and Adobe where my average is 2 video sales/month  :o )
So with SS, despite of their new earning policy, those regular 250$-80$ sales make my additional income profitable :)

Newbie Discussion / Re: boycott shutterstock
« on: October 11, 2021, 14:52 »
Because today's facts are simply showing that SS is doing more than fine. They are not only not "slowly dying", but rather steadily growing :P. See the attachment.

Agree!
I was disappointed when I found out about new earnings structure, and all of the complaining voices from SS contributors worried me. But it turns out, that those changes did not influence on my earnings in bad way. What's more, my earnings still grow as I'm uploading new content. With the same portfolio, my yearly income on Adobe is still smaller than my income from BME2021 on SS!

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock Sales are so slow this days

While I'm not seeing anything of parcicular concern on my end, I am interested in learning more about your experience. Would those of you that are reporting a decline in sales be willing to share some additional information? Ideally, a link to your portfolio. If you prefer anonymity, that's OK too. I would like to know the following:

  • How many files are in your portfolio?
  • Primary asset type (photo, video, vector?
  • Date of your most recently (approved) submission?
  • Number of files you have uploaded in 2021 so far
  • Total number of downloads in September, 2020, compared with total number of downloads in September, 2021
  • Subject you specialize in? Food, Lifestyle, Landscapes, et?

Thanks in advance for the information!

Well, year 2021 on AdobeStock is just...weird. I doubled my portfolio (which is mostly Aerials, Lifestyle and Food footage) and yet, my earnings has dropped significantly. Till now, I have earned half of what I've earned last year, with significantly smaller portfolio! (then: 800 videos, now: more than 1500).
And to avoid "maybe your portfolio is bad" I will just mention, that on SS with doubling my portfolio I've doubled my earnings already, and there are still 2 months, to make some money...

Pond5 / Re: How has Pond5 been in 2021?
« on: October 08, 2021, 07:53 »
I doubled my portfolio on Pond5 this year and till now, earned only a little bit more than for whole 2020.
To compare, with the same size of portfolio on SS, and the same level of portfolio increase (100%) on SS I doubled my earnings also...
But I don't blame Pond5, as they offer fair commission.
