Rgphoto, I'm a newbie to the microstock (Started in January this year) and first of all, from my point of view if you pay 1500 for each session it will be very very hard to get it back, why? Altought it could be stellar shots you would had to compete against great names in the Micro world (Many located in the forum) plus a lot of clients like to deal with specified photographers due to their unique style. So in general view and unless you have a unique style that pop's from the rest or you have a huge library then you will have a hard time getting some revenue out of a single session. I have a few models not top models unfortunately but they are rather cheap, some are friends others I give them a free portfolio in exchange of a session (That really cuts out the cost) ,having to paid a hairdresser that can do all sorts of things besides hair, like manicure or make up it also cuts the costs. But about the viability of the white background I can't really help you that much but from the point of view of the more experienced I think they are right outdoors have been selling a lot more.

Just my 20 cents. Hope it helps.

General Stock Discussion / BigStock a bit slugish?
« on: April 04, 2013, 01:48 »
Hello everyone, I sent a batch of 20 files to Bigstock a couple weeks ago and only today it was aproved/rejected (Some files at least), is this waiting  normal? Or is just my case?
Please give me some feedback. Best regards.

I'm new to stock photo and my portfolio is really small compared to fantastic people over here. But if you need content count on me (PHP is no my thing). Plus I can help you with translation to Portuguese if that helps. PM me any text you need translated. Best regards and good luck with the project.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Banned from Istock club
« on: March 02, 2013, 17:06 »
Sorry in advance for the offtopic.
I'm not actually in Istock, but in a way thank GOD I'm not. Is it so bad out there in those forums? I mean, is it so childish that no one can give an opinion about an update? And I tough that companies were formed by professionals since they are "demanding" about our work. From a newbie perspective, I can only say that the order of things with is "Istock created by Bruce > Grows greatly > Is fantastic to contributors > Getty Buys it out > Bruce starts feeling the pressure and leaves (Saying its about the family) > The new COO in a backstabbing act along with Getty gives away images to goggle > Lobo (In Portuguese means wolf) starts persuing anyone that speaks against the dictatorship in Istock (Specially the ones that create the content that they sell) > Banning party starts to arouse around the forum > Sales start to decrease (Magically) > Bruce creates Stocksy > Stocksy starts to grow exponentially> (Entering a theoretical part, warning spoilers ahead  :P ) Getty buys Stocksy > Stop > Repeat"

Dunno just my way of seeing things and I hope that things don't repeat. Correct me If I am wrong.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Great Letter
« on: February 16, 2013, 02:39 »
In a way I couldn't agree more with the writer of the letter, over here sometimes client's don't want to pay for photos, I do this part-time so I'm not professional or amateur, I'm more a middle term and I feel the bite of both worlds. In a way I shoot when I want and I try to enjoy the most of it (That's were we all started) and in another stance I have to provide to my family because Portugal is in deep....you know the rest... and one job is not enough. So when I try to make a living out of it I get more door slam's that I, living in a "civilized" world would expect to, due to customer's that are unwiling to pay for something that his friend with an Iphone can "do" and I quote "Even better...". Some businessmen are very selfish, they want easy profit's and want us to deliver that "image" for free.

In this letter she addresses to the music world, but how many times we find ourselves in a similar situation? How many times do we have to show our serious attitude to ignorant people that diminish our work, almost entitling it ridiculous work and refuse to pay for it?

Unfortunaly this is the world we live, with so many small people that do not appreciate the vision and art of others. I do wonder if they, for being so "small" if they don't envy the artists and "treat" them this way so they can feel better. Oh psychcology...
