General Stock Discussion / Re: The Texture Store

Only a small crop of my current portfolio is of textures, but they make up the majority of my income.

And now you're looking for ways to shrink that part by lowering prices... Interesting concept...  :o

No, I'm not. Most textures are sold at lower res at commission at other sites typically range from 0.25 to 1.00. The Texture Store is offering 0.50.

@OP:
I can't seem to find your licence use document.
Are these textures available to use commercially, i.e. that someone can buy them and use them for commercial use, e.g. to produce a 3D stock image?
(Don't jump on me, everyone, I'm only asking for clarification.)
Absolutely legit question. I'm wondering about the same thing as well.

It's on the way :-)

Too bad. I thought at first when I saw that there is a texture agency opening up that I can finally get high quality, high resolution textures (7000x7000+ seamless textures including diffuse, bump, opacity, specular etc. maps).

I guess this would be the wrong place...

Most content will likely be only diffuse maps. Your example would be categorized and prized differently.

I agree for most stock content. Textures for use in 3D etc. is not comparable to concept and model shots. $1-2 is IMO a fair price for textures. And textures sell comparably well, so the comparison makes no sense.

I shoot for stock sites myself. My first stock photo was of a basic white brick wall. That was six years ago and that photo is to this day my best selling one by a factor of ten! Only a small crop of my current portfolio is of textures, but they make up the majority of my income. So I believe there is a basis for a site like The Texture Store.

 :)

For now, yes. We want to keep it simple and be a no brainer choice.Most 3D artist don't need high res anyway.

We might make the $1 offer for small sizes later on and introduce a $2 price for full res.
