You know what really grinds my gears? Shutterstock seems to be on some level somewhat interested in contributor feedback about interface changes. But every time they whip out a new interface version it's so painfully OBVIOUS, that the new interface was not tested with a large batch of images. It was maybe tested to look good on iPad, maybe tested submitting 6 photos. But I'm a big contributor with over 80k photos and I submit batches of 20-60 photos, sometimes 150+ a day. I assume that every bigger contributor submits in bathes larger than 10. Every new interface change in Shutterstock seems to be focused on how to make it look good on mobile, and how to make submitting more intuitive for a completely new contributor. They seem to never ask themselves the question: Will the change streamline submission process for a person submitting 50 photos?
It only takes 1-2 attempts of submitting a batch of 40-50 photos to find out everything that's wrong with new interface, but somehow NOBODY in Shutterstock had the thought to test this. Some of this was fixed (Category selection location), but a lot of is still wrong.

Even if the merger is granted regulatory approval (I think it's likely), I don't think the Getty/iStock/Shutterstock websites would be merged anytime soon (if ever). They have somewhat different customer base. Their respective SEO and search result positions are too valuable to waste. Right now, Adobe would benefit most from full customer website merger of SS/iS.

I do that as well, but this helps to satisfy curiosity about a single image, or a few images. It's too time consuming to create reasonable conclusions and analyze effects of bigger photoshoots. I have a portfolio of about 100k files and 999 sets.

I do exactly this, but for me the interesting stuff is the stats for each photo. You used to be able to see these, but not anymore. Juggling the number of Sets is also difficult, I'm at the limit of 999 sets, and whenever I want to create a new set, I have to delete one...

Shutterstock response: Im afraid that this option is no longer available and has been removed from the legacy version as well. You may wish to use the feedback link to let the development team know.

I visit my Catalog Manager. I see my list of image Sets. I click one of my Sets. I see the Set Name, and next to it earnings of the Set, and number of downloads. On the right, there is a menu, Set Actions. Last option is View Set Stats. Here is where I encounter the problem. Normally you should go to list of earnings associated with photos in the set. Now when I click it, the link looks correctly, but I end up in earnings list for my whole portfolio. Does it work correctly for you?

Anyone has reasonable solution here? How to transfer keywords and description from JPG?

I started uploading microstock in 2005/2006 (18-19 years ago). After initial growth and relative stability of a few years, I feel scammed every year since around 2012, so welcome to the club Everything changes, always for worse.

When I try to visit any Image Set from Catalog Manager (the link: https://submit.shutterstock.com/earnings/top-performers?set_id=SETNUMBERHERE), I end up in some sort of new version of Top Performers (top sellers from all files). I use legacy version of contributor portal. (Of course in place of SETNUMBERHERE I have an actual id of one of my sets.

How are iStock video sales in 2024? Could you share portfolio size and some royalty amounts? It can be approximate if you don't want to be exact. Like, portfolio of 1000, 5 small sales, 1 big sale per month.

I noticed that the amount of withheld tax reported by Shutterstock in tax form 1042-S for the first time is somewhat different, compared to the amounts in your Payment History ( https://submit.shutterstock.com/payments). It doesn't matter whether I count payments listed as 2023, or move a month and count the ones actually paid out in 2023, the amount is always off (by some 2-3%). Is your 1042-S correct?

Every design change of contributor portal in last 7 years: "Hey, let's change the interface to make it seem easier and sleekier for 19-year-olds on iPhone." "Sure, do you wan't to consult with experienced contributors who submit 100 images a day on professional desktop PC?" "No, they are unimportant. Nothing is more important than iPhone user experience for 19-year-olds!" "Say no more, fam"

They sent out an email right now about ceasing operations. Payments for contributors will be processed.

My issues with new submission form introduced February 2023:
1. Terribly slow work on Uploads list. Only 10 uploads visible per page, changing page takes exactly 10 seconds for me. 2. Terribly slow load time after I click any image. It takes 9-12 seconds after I submit an image, for a new image to appear. 3. One could try to circumvent this by opening all images in fresh tabs, but new form doesn't remember your previous selection at all. So you lose your choice of licenses, Commercial/Editorial selection etc... 4. The submission form is even bigger than it was before, so I have to scroll down to find the Submit button.

When was the most recent bonus program code given in Adobe Stock, and what is its expiration date / redemption deadline? I have saved it, but I'm not sure if I should be pressured to activate it.

I don't know why Shutterstock feels the need for gimmicky changes in contributor portal layout. It's like, all layout changes in past 5 or even 10 years were made with new photographers and hobby contributors in mind. I already receive Shot List in email newsletter. Why force it on top of contributor page as well? Where are my earnings? I want my latest earnings.

Shutterstock announcement: We will not accept content generated by AI to be directly uploaded and sold by contributors in our marketplace because its authorship cannot be attributed to an individual person consistent with the original copyright ownership required to license rights. Please see our latest guidelines here. When the work of many contributed to the creation of a single piece of AI-generated content, we want to ensure that the many are protected and compensated, not just the individual that generated the content.

incorporating copyrighted elements, parts of someone else's artwork is inevitable
AI doesn't incorporate anything. AI learn what is and how to recreate any object (or human faces, animals... everything)
Of course there are legal problems because images used to train are copyrighted; but there is nothing that will be "incorporated" in new images
It's quite new scheme, and it cannot be managed with "classic" discussion, it's completely new issue to solve.
It doesn't incorporate elements per se. But you know how there are microstockers specializing in certain things. They have 30k photos of gold bars, or 10k vectors of starry sky. Inevitably there is a subject where half of all images online come from a successful artist. Inevitably AI will have learned from these images. Inevitably AI will "create" an artwork for something very specific like "angry baby sloth" and it will be 90% inspired by Angry Baby Sloth webcomic. AI customer will be oblivious about existence of Angry Baby Sloth webcomic, but the copyright will be infringed. Unless AI is trained on hand picked training images.

The problem with current AI is the questionable legal status of training data. It just crawls and harvests the internet, right? So, incorporating copyrighted elements, parts of someone else's artwork is inevitable. I'm already battle hardened in copyright legal battles (as a creator whose work was infringed upon). A lot of my images are default results in Google's first pages for many keywords. Bring it on!
