It's huge news. Other big players are joining in. Buyers will be annoyed as hell. Jon says he does not want our content on Twitter. That goes for the big players too.
My conspiracy theory is that Facebook is about to buy Shutterstock and wants the prices pushed down so that they can give our stock assets away to their advertisers.
That's why FB was so quick to gag the Inside Imaging article. Also would explain why SS seems to have lost the plot wrt to dealing with their contributors. It's FB pulling their strings now.
That would make a lot of sense if true. Facebook are good at ruining things. Instagram for example. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk

Just an idea but is anyone contacting those that are still submitting content and inviting them to join the protest? Ie filter fresh content and then see who's still submitting? Sometimes on their profile you can see their website or social profiles. Of course they may not want to (which is their decision) but they may also not know about the coalition.
Seems 900k photos a week that Shutterstock are still getting isn't good. If almost everyone stopped submitting for a while as well as the disabled profiles that would have a big impact.

Btw when/if we re-enable our port/image sales down the line do all our previous images come back? In catelog manager I can only see 300 images now whilst I had over 6k before.

Yes they do and it usually takes 72 hours for them to come back.
Your sales will resume almost immediately (dependent on quality and all the usual stuff)
Thanks for confirming. :-) Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk

Btw I was referring to the contributor admin area where I only see 300ish images now. I thought they'd only remove the image on the front end, not the back end?

Just wanted to drop in and say how much I appreciate this vector image, which got approved. I especially love keywords like 0.10, 0.1c, fuck you, greed and insulting, lol...
Link to Original work

That's pretty awesome. So funny it got approved. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk

Very likely I'll be disabling my account. I think everyone needs to though or a huge # of contributors to have an impact.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for developing this new version.
I've started trying to use it but I'm finding it extremely tedious and time consuming to select the keywords. It would be a lot quicker if there was several columns of keywords rather than just that one column. Also if you skip past some keywords in the refine column and select something further down you constantly have to keep scrolling back and forth.
I also find copying and pasting keywords between similar images isn't working.
Thanks for your help, Mike

Hi guys,
Before the unification I had an account to submit images to Getty which are exclusive (ie the Getty library), and I was then submitting totally different images to iStock (non exclusive).
Will uploading now via the ESP unification system not upload to the exclusive Getty collection? Which I don't want as I want to sell my images through iStock non exclusively and other agencies too.
Thanks for your help, Mike

How do people think it works for news content? I have submitted fast recent news content before and had no sales.
I just wonder how many people who regularly submit large amounts of news photos makes any money off those? If I was making a lot of effort and submitting lots of news photos I'd want to be getting a nice return from each submission.

Had a very quiet week. Sales every day but very very few compared to normal. Looking forward to it picking up- enjoy the rest of the holidays everyone.

I wonder if ss spends different amounts on advertising and google search etc throughout the month and maybe on different subject areas resulting in getting customers for different things which then affects different peoples portfolios.

October started out great for me at SS, then after the first week or so my earnings took a nosedive. Over the past couple of weeks sales have been significantly lower than normal. Very disheartening considering that October is usually my best month of the year otherwise. I think they must have changed the search algorithm.
same here about 80% of my sales this month came in the first week or so Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sales there are very variable but overall I have made more there than BS and almost as much as FT. Uploading is very easy and that keeps them on the upload list for me.
CanStockPhoto is a good site for me. About $350 sales so far this month, better than August and up about 30% over Sept 2013. IMHO people should think twice about dumping CanStockPhoto, which sometimes seems to favor older images (I started submitting there in 2006, I think). Patience may pay off with CanStockPhoto and yes it is easy to upload there, so why not?
It is painless to upload there like you said... Photodune and Alamy, well that's another story. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've spent maybe half a day on a single pic that has sold well, but it can be hit and miss. This excludes times taking the shot or revisiting locations though. Ie for travel/landscape pics

I always have 5 for the lightboxes as well.
Is there any notifications does anyone know?
Its also kind of hard to know if I've had any sales le the activity bit. It just gives a monthly count and your balance right? The old mobile website had the last image sold and daily balance.

People want to visit places in England they see pictures of. If there are less images out there of the beauty of english landscape, less people may visit. Seems like a silly idea to not even allow editorial.
As someone mentioned on this or ss forum, cant the agencies pay a small commission per sale. NT could potentially make a ton from it. Although it may be hard to control which pics are NT if the keywords are bad or pic is quite generic.
