General - Stock Video / Re: Go Cam
May 04, 2013, 01:24
Thank you all.  I have been thinking about doing some video.  I am in a photo funk.  You know the one:  "I hate my camera and want to smash it to bits."  That one.  I have a somewhat limited budget for a vid. cam.  The camera looks "fun" but maybe  not very useful for stock.

Always thankful for the input.

Quick question :  Has anyone tried to use go cam footage for microstock?  Is it the right file type?

Thanks!

Really early stage cancer.  Hopefully they will just cut it out and call it a day.  G1 tumor.  Super early.

That said, if anyone has had it, I would love to hear what you have to say.

Cutcaster / A little slow on the review.
October 10, 2012, 02:44
Hi guys, we are going to have a little slow down on review and research for a bit.  I came down with a little case of cancer and have to deal with that.  Review is going to be a tad spotty for 6-8 weeks or so.

Please be patient.  From what the folks in the white coats say, I am going to be fine.  We really do try to be quick on the draw with review.   KEEP UPLOADING.  I'll get to you, promise.

Keep me in your thoughts, guys.  You folks have meant a lot to me for a lot of years.  (Even if you didn't know)

So why didn't you just private mail him and thank him instead of posting something that the rest of us apparently are not allowed to know about?  ::)

Because not only do stock photographers need to stick together, but agencies should too.

It would be great to know the username so we can all follow up on different agencies...

This person ripped off the owner of Kozzi, and I believe he is all over it.  :-)

Nope, no people. The batch was a mixture of orangutans, floaty bubbles and OOF flowers.

They are people, I bet.  I know I am no floaty bubble.  I do however have red hair.

Oh *.

Once in a while I put some images into google search.  I find out a lot about where my images have gone that way.  Lots of tasty tear sheets, and a healthy potential client list.

As it is now, everyone is trying to sell everything to everyone.   In the long run, I hope to see the small agencies find ways to distinguish themselves from the big ones, in terms of marketing and content.  Eventually, those of us with small portfolios of  unusual or niche material should be able to find small agencies that are something of a 'match',  and then it would be worthwhile for us to submit to them.

I agree with you in a lot of ways.  I have been in micro from day two or so and found that many sites, when they start up, let's say the first 3 million or so images, will take just about anything, or import an unedited api.  I think that's a mistake.  I think the first 3 million are critical, and having a clean site from the beginning is key.  A slower boat of higher quality.

Just thoughts.  I am writing a book on the subject (108 topics so far, kill me) from the inside out.  I think a lot of the slower sales at bigger sites is due in part to a glut of images and search fatigue.

Thanks for your replies so far.  Yeah I heard that the sales are more of a trickle than a cascade.  I suppose there is no harm in submitting all of your files there - even if it brings in one pay-cheque a year it's something.  And you can rely on the other agencies to bring in the real dough :-)

This is a great attitude to have.  I personally submit to about 20 agencies.  I get a check a year from each of the small ones, 6 checks from the middle ones, and one a month from the usual suspect.

I look forward to seeing your work!!!

Cora, you really need a "home" button, which will take one back to the Collections Home page. If you have selected a theme and worked through a few pages you have to use the back button to get back to the index.

Oh!  Thank you.  I have a meeting this week and will mention this!

Cutcaster / Filling out our Lightboxes
September 22, 2012, 18:01
Hi all!!!

I know many of you don't use Cutcaster because we are a slow starter, but we are really picking up and I am looking for some outstanding submissions targeted at our lightbox topics found here:

http://cutcaster.com/search/collections/

Any of those topics under 250 need more content.  Our lightbox images sell 3 to 1 over regular submissions!!!!

I would really love to see more vectors for our Internet section!!!  Our vectors are selling well!

I know for some on this board the low earners aren't interesting, but give us a shot!!!  And if you are already there, send me a PM and I will go through your portfolio and pick some out for our lightboxes.

Thanks all!!

Cora

Thanks for your understanding.

I have passed my copyright on all photos, painting, and other art work to my son in my will.  It may not amount to much after I die, but I want to make sure someone owns the rights so they do not become orphaned works.

I wonder if by downloading you install a worm, or a virus of some type.

No.  They are not hot linked.

Yes, copyright law, especially international law is complex.  Personally, I start with the site, then the host, then the agency in that country which handles copyright.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I think you might feel a bit less nonchalant if it was your work being ripped off....oh yeah, and it's my job to actually be proactive in these matters.

By doing this, more people send cease and desist notices in hopes of getting them shut down sooner.  But posting, I am trying to help my community.
