I just started in microstock this year, but figured I would wait awhile before trying to find out what had happened with images that had been sold.  Today one of my shots came up on what appears to be a Chinese stock photo site called Yestone.  Can't seem to find out who they are.  I'm assuming they're affiliated with one of the larger agencies I submitted photos to, but can't tell.  Any help?

I know that sites don't want loads of shots from the same shoot that are only incrementally different.  They want us to pick the best shot rather than have to wade through lots of slight variations themselves.  But what if I upload shots that provide different phases of an activity?  Each photo illustrates a separate step.  Are my chances better if I upload all the steps (perhaps 5) at once or put each pose in a different upload?
Thanks!

General - Top Sites / Differences beyond sales?
« on: March 11, 2015, 14:05 »
I'm new to microstock (about 6 weeks) and my sales (order--from best to worst) run close to what is shown on the Poll Results here (SS, FT, IS, DT, 123RF, Alamy).   But what really accounts for the differences?  I understand that different clients choose to work with different sites, but is there a type of photo or subject that certain sites specialize in or type of client they cater to?

Newbie Discussion / same photo on multiple sites?
« on: February 01, 2015, 14:07 »
Another newbie question:  Is there any reason not to upload the same photo on multiple sites?  I was accepted by SS and have been uploading images.  I'd planned to send the ones they rejected that seemed to me to still have value to other sites.  Since SS is "non-exclusive" does that mean I can send the ones they HAVE accepted to other sites as well?  Am I undercutting myself if I do?  Thanks in advance.

Newbie Discussion / Introduction and keywording question
« on: January 23, 2015, 18:31 »
Hello All.  I'm new here and new to microstock.  Years ago I shot black and white film (mostly dancers and some street-shooting) and for the last 8 years or so I've been shooting digital color (mostly nature).  My images tend to live on my computer, so now I'm thinking of sending them out to earn their keep--or at least the occasional snack and maybe a new lens.
My keywording question is probably stupid, but I haven't been able to find an answer yet.  Do the stock stites' search tools look for individual words or do they also hunt for phrases?  For instance, if I am including the full name of a flower, do I put in each individual word separated by commas, or do I put in the full name, no commas?  If the main object is purple, do I just use the word purple or do I ALSO include purple bicycle?  Hope this makes sense.
I'm looking forward to learning a lot on this forum.  Thanks in advance!
