Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens to Contributors on June 8th« on: June 08, 2009, 11:48 »Has anybody who's images were transferred in from SV had their account log-in information sent to them yet? Yes, I got it this morning and when I signed in had to fill out a couple of forms like a w-4, agreements for contributions as well as transfer of images from SV to Veer etc.. and change your default password.. I am able to log into FTP, but all my uploads fail so far, like their server might be overloaded with ftping or something.. Also you need to ftp with explicit tls/ssl not regular ftp.. 105
Microstock Services / Re: Too Busy Shameless Download Tips.......Why?« on: April 22, 2009, 09:31 »
Yes, absolutely.. I got reamed back a little while ago for telling someone I did'nt appreciate the pimping.. Now think people are actually realizing that people are trolling these forums looking for ways to exploit them and microstock..

Only $29.95 a year. If you act now, I'll throw in my patented "Zen Reflector", a foil covered triangle hat you can use as a light bouncer as well. lol - I'd buy the hat ![]() 107

Veer / Re: Anyone sells at Veer yet?« on: April 10, 2009, 00:28 »I don't understand why it takes months upon months to move everything over. Seems like the typical Snapvillage half-ass everything method. I was hoping that things were finally changing. I think that they have to re-review everything as I believe was said earlier that standars will be higher than previously on SV.. 111
Alamy.com / Re: Recently joined!! how successful??« on: March 26, 2009, 09:47 »
I don't think you have been there long enough to come to this conclusion.. You start at a middle rank and work your way up from there and sales can take months to actually come together.. I think your calculations of $0,80 per image is not really the case, maybe if you are calculating all the crap and bad keyworded images yes.. But I think if you took all the real hard working photographers and averaged their per image income it would be a different number.. most people say that if you are decent you can expect somewhere at 1 sale per month per every 1000 images if you averaged that sale at $100 you get $10 per image per month.. But it is not fast cash like the micros, you have to wait for things to start rolling.. And alamy is a great place I think for good editorial and RM that wouldn't make the mass download thresh hold on micro, unless you have access to Getty or Jupiter RM but that is a different story all together.. Actually their search is a pretty logical setup you handle all the keyword plurals to make sure plural actually fits the image.. You get moved up the search by how many views to zooms/sales, so if your images are good and keyworded good then you will be rewarded.. If your images suck and you have spammed or bad keywording you get penalized.. Seems pretty logical to me.. 112
Alamy.com / Re: Alamy Subs« on: March 19, 2009, 00:32 »OMG They're just trying to keep up with the rest of the bunch.. Their biggest income is editorial, and that is shrinking rapidly.. What would you do if you had to keep the company afloat? They have to be competitive to the market which is heavily getting pushed to lower price points and subs unfortunately.. 113
General Stock Discussion / Re: Vectorizing« on: March 17, 2009, 19:39 »Did you take the photos? Exactly true.. If you did not take the photo, then just because it is vectorized does not allow you to sell it.. It has to be your original work otherwise it is a duplication of copyrighted material.. 114
Cutcaster / Re: Avoiding scams. Require a government ID or drivers license? Your thoughts?« on: March 16, 2009, 21:34 »
Absolutely.. I think it is needed at this point in the game.. There is rampant stealing and re-selling images..

Dreamstime.com / Re: a lone voice« on: March 04, 2009, 22:14 »I draw 2 conclusions. The main one is that if you're new and don't start selling right away, you're downgraded at some point and might as well give up because people aren't even seeing your images any more. It's not hard to figure this out. Reviewing is expensive - maybe the biggest cost of running a microstock business - and if you're not selling, they're losing money by paying people to review your images and would really like you to just go away. Completely incorrect and on par with the rest of your uninformed and negative rants.. It has to do with your approval rate as well as your keywording, descriptions, image titles and obviously quality.. My guess is 2 or more of these for you are not up to par.. SS is easy to get new stuff downloaded, and you will soon see that the new image factor will fall away and the true test of your skills will be tested.. 117

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Is Live« on: February 25, 2009, 11:24 »I could be wrong here but this looks like the first major agency that has decided to put its micro offerings on a tab right next to everything else. I'm not sure about Jupiter, I never followed them very closely. Yes as far as I know, but inmagine is doing the same thing right now with 123 as well.. 120

General Stock Discussion / Re: Only Moments Away?« on: February 23, 2009, 16:40 »Well they needed to do something to compensate for the lack of sales on 123RF, I'm not Inmagine is going to be the magic cure, I've been with them on the macro side of things and sales are non-existent there, I stopped uploading ages ago and in fact I was toying with pulling all my images off and putting them elsewhere. Yeah me too.. Although I am baffled by the lack of sales since their alexa traffic is WAY higher than Alamy or Age, actually it is right up there with corbis and jupiter.. I don't understand how they can have all that traffic and be lacking in the sales.. 122

iStockPhoto.com / Re: how to be non-exclusive...for dummies« on: February 23, 2009, 10:54 »does every site have its own model releases? or can I upload istock model releases to other sites? Just photoshop out the Istock logo and any references and it should be fine.. 125
iStockPhoto.com / Re: how to be non-exclusive...for dummies« on: February 22, 2009, 23:04 »this is a question about the basics of being non-exclusive...let's say I have ten images. if I am non-exclusive, can I upload these same ten files to every agency for sale? or do non-exclusives have different images on different sites? do sites frown upon uploading the same images across the board? Yes, all images and all agencies.. Some accept different stuff so the ports will vary slightly but the general idea is spread your images out.. Are you starting to second guess your exclusivity? |
