« on: November 10, 2010, 16:37 »
Hahaha!
No Sadstock :)
God, I wish I was that good :)
I meant custom work - individual buyers contact you to request custom work and they do it via the site's mail. They send you private messages.
You get those from time to time, not only at IStock and not only for vector artists :)
Unfortunately for me, IStock couldn't care less if I keep on uploading or not.
But hey, that's life.

Well, I for one, have certainly stopped uploading.
I even ignored private requests received via IStock - mail.
It's the 15% commission - I can't wrap my mind around it. It hurts.

I believe there are a few other artists, (very successful), who have done the same - Anja Kaiser, Thomas Amby, 9 Lives, Cory, to name just a few.
But I'm not sure, it's not my business, so let's just wait for them to come visit themselves and tell you their story.

Changes taking place in January are bad for everyone, but the pain is certainly worse for vector artists.
Vector artists need a higher number of R Credits to climb up the levels, they have no access to Vetta anymore and no access to Agency.
Not fair.
On top of that, uploading a vector file to IStock is a seriously irritating process. (forget about Deep Meta, it doesn't work with vectors).
All in all, Istock is pushing vector artists to the limits.
I wonder why.
Their vector collection used to be one of the best in the world. Seems like a strange way to reward some of your most successful artists.
But hey, the very intelligent people at Getty know what they're doing. We should trust them.
Or maybe not.

Anita,
4 pending here, just uploaded :)
But keep positive!
We might win something (for once!) :)

Love them!
Always have :)
My most favorite site, a great, reliable agency.

Thank you Dreamstime, (especially at a time like this) !
Show us, (and them), that it can be done.
It's a lesson.

Thank you!

Veer / Re: Unacceptable review times at Veer
« on: November 06, 2010, 20:12 »
Well, I'm not so sure ...
Having a 100 / week limit is already quite restricting, (think of the big ports out there), reducing it further to 50/week is a desperate measure for a desperate time.
They need more reviewers.
Hopefully they'll get them one day and Veer inspection times will come in line with all the other big agencies.

Veer / Re: Unacceptable review times at Veer
« on: November 05, 2010, 23:57 »
I can barely upload 5 - 6 new images a week. Personally, I'm not affected by the new limits.
But I can't help feeling a bit disappointed.
I like Veer very much and want them to do well, climb up there, but this is not the way to do it.
The world of microstock is fast, a super-fast, continuously moving highway of fresh, new images.
To keep up with it, and be able to compete Veer needs more reviewers.
There's just no denying. More reviewers.

Well, let's keep positive and look at the bright side.
My inspection times at Veer used to be longer than 3 months. That's right, over 3 months in pending.
Nowadays my images get inspected in half the time.
It's progress.
I'm not giving them up, I'll keep uploading and I hope most of you do too :)
Hopefully, they'll get there. One day ...

107
This is a long term battle. But I'm not giving up.
Unfortunately for me I can't forgive them (I tried), and I'm not giving up.
I haven't uploaded a single image since the announcement.
No purchases whatsoever from IStock.
Every single day I make a point of reminding people I know, (or don't know), to never buy from IStock again.
I will delete my port before the change takes place.
I will not vote/participate in any way to the competition.
They tell me I don't matter.
But I know I do.

GLStock / Re: GraphicLeftovers big news
« on: November 03, 2010, 12:18 »
Wow! Lisa is there, I'm looking at her hubby right now, he's on the front page :)
I'm happy, I've been wishing and even asking for this to happen for a long time.
Good job GL, and good luck !

Stockastic, I know what you mean, and in a way I have to agree, you're right.
But let's look at it from another point of view - the introduction of people images translates not only to more competition for us, but also to more buyers visiting the agency.
This must be so! It will happen, it will take some time, but it will happen!
I'm confident :)

GL's 52% commission is not something we see every day; I believe we should stand by their agency and help them succeed. Hopefully they'll never go the dark IStock way - that's a lesson to learn - and they'll stay true to fairness and honesty.
Look at the bright side Stockastic, keep on uploading and keep your fingers crossed :)
For now they're the good guys :)

109
Hahahaha!
'Changing the colour of the download button!'
Hahahaha!
Clearly they think we're all a bunch of idiots.

Anyhow, thank you for the good laugh, Joyze.

Dreamstime.com / Re: these are not my pictures...
« on: November 01, 2010, 14:21 »
Sorry, but I have to disagree.
Glitches and bugs are unavoidable, but when it comes to Dreamstime they normally fix them in a matter of hours. Those guys are good, really good.
Grandpa have you tried submitting to IStock for example? How did it go? No glitches, no bugs, no errors? Smooth and easy?
That would be something!
Not to mention the time it takes IStock to fix any of their glitches. Unfortunately, of those, they have many.
And nobody seems to be able to fix them. In months.
Compared to that, Dreamstime is not only a lot more professional, but one of the best as well.

Veer / Re: Participate in a User Experience Research Study
« on: October 08, 2010, 13:47 »
I don't live in the Seatle area, I'm already a Veer contributor and I'm not needed, but I still think this is great :)
They're clearly interested, they're making a move (yet again), and it shows that Veer is far from giving up.
Which is great.
Fingers crossed they'll get more and more artists to participate / sign up.
Good luck :)

Veer / Re: Veer? what are they doing??
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:03 »
Wow!
You're joking Azure, right?
This can't be right.
You've got a lovely port, lovely port and they need you!
Why would they do such a thing to you?
It's a mistake, definitely a mistake and I hope Veer looks into it.
Would you take the trouble and send them a support ticket, ask for help?
Is anyone from Veer still reading this forum?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock changing royalty structure
« on: September 24, 2010, 22:21 »
Well, it seems I'm in the lead ...
10 people ignoring me!
Ah well, they're right. I am controversial and I do speak my mind :)
Not always convenient or very PC.

But don't you worry ladies and gents, I have never ignored anyone and never will.
I don't see the point.
There you go, you've got yourself at least one loyal reader :)

I'm so sorry Rob left. I also like Andrew from Mexico very much, by the way; both very nice people.
And I've made up my mind.
I am going to believe that Rob's departure is related to the changes taking place at Istock.
I know he's a very busy man and I know about his new book.
However, Rob has been active on IStock's forums for as long as I can remember. Going back years. His sudden departure, only a couple of weeks after the announcement, seems too much of a coincidence to me.
There's something about the timing; it's telling. Also, the way he left, not quite right.
In any case, I just wanted to say good luck to you Rob! Wherever you go :)

Someone please buy IStock already. Before it's too late.

Absolutely, Sharpshot.
Why would they?
Contributors upload for a fixed 0.25 - no raise, to sites like ThinkStock and Crestock, why would Shutterstock give us a raise? They already pay us more.
And indeed, Shutterstock is doing very well. That is true :)
I hope they keep on growing.
They deserve to be successful.

Adobe Stock / Re: Terrible review acceptance at FT
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:13 »
I've had enough of this.
I'm sure FD's acceptance rate at Fotolia is just fine. That's because FD has lots and lots of beautiful people shots and Fotolia loves people shots.
No need to worry about FD.
He knows well what to submit and where.

Take FD's advice, JP.
It's not easy to get a landscape/ nature/ architecture shot accepted at Fotolia.
It seems they're mostly looking for vectors, isolations and people shots.
Not that I agree, but there's not much I can do, except play by their rules.
Good luck :)

116
Thank you everyone for your support :)
Made me feel great, thank you :)

Ichiro,
come on now! Let's put an end to this.
Obviously I'm not doing this for me. I've got a crappy port, poor sales and I make no money.
So why bother?
Because this is not about me.
This is about all of us, about being fair and trying my very best to stop IStock's 15% commission from spreading around.
I can't work harder Ichiro. That's not an option.
I submit both vectors and photos. To climb back to 20% I need to reach the following targets : 1.400.000 credits for photos and 75.000 credits for vectors.
They're plain impossible.
I stopped uploading.
I will delete my port well before the change takes place.
I will not sell a single file for anything less than 20%.

Meanwhile I will keep on complaining, making as much noise as I possibly can. Here, and everywhere.
Unfortunately for you, there's nothing you can do to stop me.

IStock's deal is rotten. No matter how you look at it, independent or exclusive.
It's rotten and instead of obsessing about my sales, you should join us and try to stop it.
Save IStock from going down.

117
Ichiro,
no links, no names, no port, no sales.
No argument.
A nobody.

118
I've heard this argument before - the other sites, Dreamstime and Fotolia ...
What about Dreamstime and Fotolia?
Today IStock is the only agency that offers me a 15% commission.
No other site has gone this low.
I'll cross one bridge at a time.

Contributors who are upset and post on IStock forums are jerks.
Thing is, historically speaking it's because of 'jerks' like them, people who have the guts to ask questions and demand answers, that we have evolved into free, democratic societies.
I'll take the jerks anytime.
As opposed to incognito posters who can't even muster enough courage to reveal their true identity.
Not to be trusted.

119
Caspixel,
true, you're right :)
The order to start banning came from above - blank, no names given.
Lobo was free to choose whom, and he picked you.
Ah well, gotta give poor Lobo some of his self-esteem back. Not just a forum moderator, but a Five Golden Star forum moderator, the elite :)
Naughty Caspixel!
You've been buying from IStock for so many years! They've had enough of your money! It's now time to move on :)

I'm sorry this has happened to you Caspixel. Totally uncalled for.
I hope they lift your ban ASAP. With an apology.

120
Hawk Eye,
right.
I've been reading some of Lobo's posts for more than 4 years. Time aplenty!
He's a forum moderator on IStock.
End of story.

121
@Caspixel,
He was given the green light to start banning people; he said so today.
And he chose you, among other 'troublemakers' :)
But make no mistake, the order came from above.
Lobo is on the receiving orders side. Not the other way around.

No matter Caspixel :)
No matter!
It's time to give the other sites a chance. Buy from them too, at least from time to time :)
If you can :)
Nobody will ever ban you from there, and collections are just as good :)

122
HawkEye,
This is a common attitude. At least on this forum it is.
When they're incapable of finding a better argument, some people turn to my port - 'but you've 'only' been doing this for a year!' - they tell me. 'Your images are crap and you don't have any sales!'
But of course.
Kindly let me remind you that my port has nothing at all to do with the topic. It's my opinions, not my port that bother you.

Right now, IStock is a farce. A joke.
Banning people won't do them any good.
That's my opinion.

And speaking of ports, I don't seem to be able to find yours. Would you care to show it? Man-up for a change?

123
So now they're banning users.
Deleting posts, locking threads and banning users.
Can't find SJLocke's thread anymore. Gone, moved without a trace.
Is this their way to deal with the problem?

Don't worry DGilder :)
Lobo is nothing but a forum moderator. He obeys orders, like a good employee. Lobo didn't leave the mega thread open out of personal sympathy; he left it open because he was told to do so.
Likewise, he banned you - and the others, because he was told to do it.
Lobo is the guy who gets told. Ordered around, a peon.
You're not.
You've got talent, you've got your port, and you've got all the other sites to join.
And so far not one of them has gone quite as low as IStock.
Something tells me that they won't do it anytime soon.
They're fair, they're successful, they sell images and you'll be fine :)
Good luck :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: So what are we all going to do?
« on: September 18, 2010, 19:10 »
Hi Jamirae, :)
I think I know how you must be feeling.
A bit lost, perhaps disappointed and worried.
Don't worry, you've got nothing to fear!
Forget about all the things you've been told at IStock - the other sites are crap, their collections are crap, their sales are subscriptions only, inspectors on the other sites know nothing about microstock photography, they treat you like dirt and they're basically whorehouses (see post above me).
That is absolutely not true!
I'm not saying they're perfect (no agency truly is) but they're reliable, solid and fair.
A lot more so than IStock is today.
Do not, under no circumstances, avoid Shutterstock just because of the things you've been told, or because of the fear of the 0.25 cent downloads.
The 0,25 cent level doesn't last long (you'll be on a higher and higher level in NO time at all) and there's a lot more to SS than just subscription sales. Don't forget about ODs and ELs. They're all yours for the taken. Sales at Shutterstock never stop, just keep on coming, on and on, old and new alike.
SS forums are buzzing with activity, vivacious and friendly, upload system is a breeze, inspections are consistent and fast, payouts are automated. No need for crappy tickets requests a la IStock.
I checked your port a moment ago (forgive me for being nosy), and it's beautiful, congratulations!
You'll have absolutely no problem getting accepted at SS, (or at any other site for the matter).
Start with Shutterstock, Fotolia and Dreamstime and go down the list whenever you feel like giving them a chance too. Some are definitely worth your while.
It is possible that your earnings will head down initially, but don't worry, this won't last!
Not at all!
With a port like yours you'll make more money than ever, in a very short time, with a lot less stress, no drama and, most importantly, you'll be free !
Priceless :)
Enjoy !

« on: September 18, 2010, 10:06 »
@Gannet,
are you somewhat worried independents are not leaving fast enough?
Giving us a helping hand on our way out?
I would think twice before offering such advice.

Your agency has made me 4 dollars this month. Compared to the last few months, that's actually a solid improvement. Gotta give credit to Istock, they're getting better!
Don't worry about ways to faster delete ports. We know them all right.
