Symbiostock - Technical Support / Resolved: Way to market image on symbiostock but exclusive through other agency?« on: September 01, 2013, 02:00 »
Might be a weird question but I have some images that are shutterstock exclusive. Is there a way to make it so while you can view the image on symbiostock it lets you konw that it is a shutterstock exclusive image and in turn will route you to shutterstock if you want to get that image?
I know this might be slightly counter productive to the goal of symbiostock but I have some images that just are not able to be had through other means yet. 103
General Stock Discussion / Re: RPI is it by month or year and whats average« on: August 12, 2013, 13:57 »
My time usually is minimal also, excluding keywording but that is cause I hate it. Not the greatest in photoshop and so usually it is just fast global edits or some minimal contrast, dodge, burn in Camera Raw. Not saying I don't sometimes do more but those are few and far between. Usually my goal is to learn how to be efficient and quick with it the edits.
Either way I do try to improve my own work overtime. I've seen it grow quite a bit from when I've first started and my goal is to keep growing it. Part of the reason I would like to compare is it's one of the things that helps keep me going. I like being a little competitive. Don't get me wrong I love doing photography as is, but it's still nice to know where I am in relation to others. Also by doing this comparison it allows me to see what subjects might be selling and allows me to see even if mine are selling maybe they aren't selling as good as others. Then I can go in compare why. Is it the image, is it the keywording and what not. Let me ask would you handle things different if you found out your portfolio was considered sub par in sales vs if you found out your portfolio was doing above average? 104
General Stock Discussion / Re: RPI is it by month or year and whats average« on: August 12, 2013, 12:37 »
Honestly I don't factor cost into a lot of stuff as most all my shoots don't have any cost. For models I use myself, or my kids if needed. If I need supplies I use what is around the house. Generally if I need to buy anything then I don't photograph it cause I'm a broke bum. The only shots I do that have a cost are interesting enough my lowest earners anyway which would be the editorial stuff. Even then though the only real cost I have is the gas to get there and whatever food I eat while I'm there if I don't pack anything with me.
Let me ask then though if I want to compare only the earnings potential of my images vs someone else how would I do so? My goal is to find out how my images earn compared to someone else or the average. Most seem to say that RPI is not the way to do it and so how can I compare my works potential vs someone else? 105
General Stock Discussion / Re: RPI is it by month or year and whats average« on: August 08, 2013, 11:58 »
I've heard quite a few different rates as to what peoples RPI's are but nobody I've seen ever really gave over what the time range was just that they had a RPI of X. That's why I was curious as to if there was a standard time frame RPI is given over. Usually I just hear that the average for an RPI is $1 but I've never heard someone say is that per month or per year so I was curious from there.
I'm curious on what others RPI's are for just to compare to see how my portfolio is doing vs other peoples. I know it's not a tell all and that depending upon what you are photographing you can get different RPI's. I can see that in my own portfolio even comparing editorial vs non-editorial shots, or even comparing my prison photo's vs photos of me laying on the couch. I've used it for that for a while though to see what sets are working out and which ones are not working out. I already have done that and have my images seperated out by sets, whole portfoilo, editoria vs commercial, even among different topics. This way I can compare images within my own portfolio vs others within my own port. Still curious though where my portfolio stands compares to others. With that it gives me somewhat of an idea of how my images are earning against the "average" portfolio. Comparing only among myself might help out with seeing which of my sets work well against each other but if I'm taking images of crap compared to other peoples gold and I don't realize it then I'm going to keep doing crap. Here at least if I see my RPI is crap I realize that I am doing something wrong somplace compared to that "average" and from there I need to either change my images or something. Yes I know in the end the goal is to always drive to higher sales and get a stronger bottem end as that is what pays the bills, and either way I'm going to go out and take more images and always try to get better this I believe can still be used as a tool to see my standing and see how far off from where I should/could be. Unless anywants to look at my portfolio and point out things that can be improved but usually when someone does that I start hearing complaints about eyes getting poked out and needing bleach to wash the crap away, so with that I think RPI is where I'm going to stay :-) 106

What would be considered an average for RPI?

General Stock Discussion / Re: RPI is it by month or year and whats average« on: August 05, 2013, 01:55 »
More or less trying to compare to others. I've seen numbers thrown about from .40 or so up to 5 or so. Doesn't help though unless I know are we comparing by the month or by the year.

So I'm curious as I hear the term RPI quite often. I understand it's how much you made vs how many files you have up, but is this number on a per year basis that most people give or a per month?
Also what is considered a normal number for RPI. 109

I'm hoping the person who is making this claim didn't just silently drop it 110
Symbiostock - Technical Support / Under menu categories is blank?« on: July 29, 2013, 12:40 »
I know at one point it had listed all my image categoriesbut now all it shows is "Uncategorized" when you go into the menu settings. I've double checked to make sure that I have image categoriesand they are still there and I do have a menu that has some of the categories listed in there . What do I do to fix this?
Also I notice with the recent images it shows them only in a list top to bottom. Is there a way to set it up so they go side to side or to make it two rows of side to side images? 111
Shutterstock.com / Re: Weird complaint from shutterstock. Someone else is claiming my images.« on: July 19, 2013, 14:49 »So you have several (or more)images of yourself in various outfits doing various things with various expressions. He says you look like him, so it must be him, so give him some money. Has anybody asked if he remembers these particular photographs being taken? Is he saying they were taken without his knowledge? At some point in his life, was he minding his own business, standing in front of a black background with his shirt off, wearing a Santa Claus hat and playing with his nipples, then, without his knowledge, someone took his picture and is now getting rich selling his image to publications around the world? The picture of the Santa hat isn't him. He has a list of five images that he claim are him and has proof a such that those images are him. The rest of the images on my profile it seems as far as he is concerned are not him. Only this list of five he is requesting to be taken down. What confuses me is even though out of all the images have the same face how he came up with choosing only five of them claiming those are him when the rest of the images have the same face on them. With the images in question he knows when the photographer took those images and knows for what use those images are for. He has proof that the images he is complaining about are his images and he even has made claims that he has physical proof that this is him. This is going by information he has made public on both his facebook and twitter. Disorderly he very well could be mistaken and really believe it is him. I'm not sure how as our looks are quite different and from what I have seen comparing his images vs mine only one look even close to the same but really even as such it's about the same as Ron and I look. I also just want to add that so far my understanding is based upon what little information I have recieved from SS and the rest seems to be based upon what he has posted in public about this. 112

Well on an interesting thing with that reading his twitter and facebook he is trying to push this out into the media and to other people. It seems that he is wishing others to spread the word on this. I know that it has spread a little bit as people are sharing the story and I have even found the story on some third party site. 114

Sorry had many windows open so noticed I had this typed up but forgot to post it. this is in reply to noodle
This complaint was not brought about by another contributor but rather someone else seperate from the whole thing. It seems he saw this image someplace and said "hey this looks like, maybe it is me." from there from what little I can gather is he made claim against either SS or the company that was using the image at which point he was directed to shutterstock saying that this image is him and as such all images of him need to be removed from SS. I have the RAW's and multiple of them of me trying to do the same shot and many shots at that same time. I have images of myself that my wife took while I still had my facial fuzz. If it comes to court I don't see any reason as to why this guy would win as the image is me. Hope it doesn't come to that though and hoping that we can contact the guy get this all resolved and taken care of sooner rather then later, but still if push comes to shove I'm not backing down. 115

Well at this point I found out who the person is claiming to be in those images. I've seen his images and his face and while there is something bordering a partial semi kind of in a if you really look at it hard and squint in just the right way I don't think the we look at that much alike other then he has facial hair and so did I when these images were made.
At this point I don't know how much info I can really give other then the person is now making a possible threat of legal action against SS and possibly others for use of his likeness, aka my face, but shutterstock so far is working with this trying to get it resolved. I give them quite a bit of respect on how they are handling this and hopefully once it's all said and done I can say more about what all is going on. 117
Shutterstock.com / Re: Weird complaint from shutterstock. Someone else is claiming my images.« on: July 18, 2013, 13:18 »
So far mike there has been no sentence against me. They took the complaint and let me run open and free while they investigate. I'm assuming that the other person has sent a photo of themself or ID, something at least to give some sort of proof. It sounds like SS knowns who the person is and I believe they even said there are some things that look the same between him and myself. With that SS I believe has to at least do due diligence and verify the claim as I'm sure not doing so can open them up to liability.
Ron wouldn't mind that pint but me being in the western US and you I'm assuming being in ireland chances are won't work out too well. Btw I have some new images comming up soon on shutterstock that hopefully I can get some sales on. Figured I can let my nipples rest for a bit before I bring out the clamps and do something else instead. 118
Shutterstock.com / Re: Weird complaint from shutterstock. Someone else is claiming my images.« on: July 18, 2013, 00:00 »
It was an email that came directly from shutterstock then mixed with a phone call plus they knew that the person in the picture and the photographer are one in the same. I'm doubting it's a scam at this point.
Ron I'm not quite sure why you think I'm a legend. I'm just some guy who is too broke to hire real models and figured lets see how a quick and easy shot works out. Leaf thank you for the idea. It's not true but at least it does sound like something that might be in the realm of somewhat realistic. 119
Shutterstock.com / Re: Weird compaling from shutterstock. Someone else is claiming my images.« on: July 17, 2013, 14:08 »
Nope no vendetta that I'm aware of. Most people don't know where I submit my images or the name that I put my images under. Shouldn't be anyone that I'm aware of who would even know where to start to cause my problems.
As far as the images I recieved a call from shutterstock today (big thumbs up for shutterstock being proactive and not shutting me down right then and there and instead trying to get to the bottom of things first) and the person who filed the complaint as I understand it thinks I took their face and transposed it on someone elses body. I ended up finding and sending the RAW over to SS and hopefully this goes away soon enough. I can sadly say that face and that sexy body is mine. Who really would want to claim both of those :p. As a side note if you do the search for just the word nipple on SS and have it sorted by popular I hold three of the top 6 images. 120

So far I admit that I pushed back. I'm asking to see the complaint itself as I believe the complaint is filed in bad faith. Asked to see what proof the person who filed the complaint gave to show that this is his work. We will see what they say.

Shutterstock.com / Weird complaint from shutterstock. Someone else is claiming my images.« on: July 16, 2013, 20:26 »
I'm baffled by a complaint I just recieved from shutterstock. Someone it seems currently sent a complaint to shutterstock either claiming that they are the subject in my photo's or that they took the images. I'm not sure which as shutterstock hasn't clarified too much just that they want some sort of proof that the images are of me and taken by me.
The image that was mentioned was this one http://www.shutterstock.com/pic.mhtml?id=107540021&src=id though they also said that the complain was of many other images of the same model. Here is a listing of all images of me currently on shutterstock. http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?models=12913051&models=13473221&context_photo=107540021 I'm not sure how someone can mistake these images thinking that they might be the subject of these images or confusing their own work thinking that they might be the photographer on these images. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be going on why someone or for that matter how someone can even claim these images might be of them or by them? I'm at a total loss as to why someone would do this when most anyone would know if they took a picture of themself wearing a santa hat grabbing their nipples or know if they took multiple pictures of a fat guy grabbing their nipples. Anyone? 123

Shutterstock.com / Re: New rules for editorials (again)« on: April 03, 2013, 22:53 »
agreed. Great idea but the program kind of falls flat in how I've seen it work.
My biggest complaints are it seems like a big black hole once you put your info out. From there you either don't hear anything at all ever at all, or you get an approval. I think only once did I get a "ok we are in talks please be on the lookout", though that one turned into silence after that as well no denial, no approval just be on the lookout. Some kind of quick feedback would mean a lot even if it was just a hey sorry didn't work, sorry no reply, hey we are checking. At least at that point it stocks the black hole feel. The other thing that adds to that is I've had talks with a few PR people got the info that's required and carried on a decent conversation with them with a few back and forth emails, send to on the red carpet and from there it just vanishes. I admit I don't know what goes on form there once I pass it off. They could be working their little bums off trying to get things going. I really don't know but that is part of what frustrates me so much is I don't know. I never know what is going on or what happens from there. It's honestly made me tempted to ask if I could just have SS fill out the forms and send them to me and then I would deal with the PR myself as at least that way I would feel part of the loop. Please don't get me wrong I love the idea, love the program in ways. It's just at points the program as trofia said though it doesn't seem 100% reliable. I do hope you continue it though just would like to see some improvement on it. |
