Thanks for all the effort. Interesting!

My pleasure!

Hey folks

Last autumn I did an analysis of Shutterstock portfolios on Petapixel and the general ask was to do the same for Adobe Stock. Sorry it took so long, but here it is finally: https://xpiksapp.com/blog/adobe-stock-top-500-portfolios/

Please let me know what do you think of it!

Can anyone help please? I can't update my MAC Book Pro. It is already getting slower and slower.

Hey HappyBunny. Yes, we can help you :)

Please contact Xpiks support via Google Group https://xpiksapp.com/support/

Weird. So was your website hacked? I think people deserve to know how tight your security is

No, the website was not hacked. It's a static website that "cannot be hacked" (in your understanding of that word) and has no user data in any case.

The problem with the link was that this is a guest post and I copied text with a link without following it first. In general I check all the links before posting, but this one I somehow forgot to click. Anyways it's my fault that I did not double check before posting. Good that it was spotted.

What is http://www.crissycarter.com/? The sign up link in the Alamy aticle leads to http://www.crissycarter.com/contributor-signup.html

Whoops, that was some scammy website with HTTP-only (no encryption for username/password) that got there by mistake. The link is fixed now.

The title of this thread is bragging about "the highest comissions in the industry", not about "percentages".

Yep, we meant "percentages". Sorry for the confusion!

You are not mentioning some of the minuses:
- you can only opt out in April out of Distributor sales
- A refund is not just a rare occurrence. It happens quite often, usually with  high value sales.
- you can't opt out of Affiliate sales (are you an affiliate?)
- Distributor sales can sometimes be reported after 6 months (what's up with "the sale that is posted in your Dashboard in real-time" mention ??? )
- Alamy waits for the clients to report their downloads, and I once found that they completely missed one of my sales. There were probably also other.
- If you want a list of all the downloads of your photos, to see what sale has not appeared in your sales report, they can't provide it
- When Alamy changed the commission structure, if one of your sales was reported with delay, after the new commission went into effect, even if the download and use by the client happened before the change, you only received the reduced commission. When asked about this, they said that a purchase is not considered made when the client is downloading or even using the photo  ???

Maybe I forgot some of the other issues...but the sales there have been very low in the past months (or maybe they just haven't recognized them as sales yet!), so I stopped caring about it as you certainly can't get anywhere with their contributor support.

Thank you for this! I updated the blogpost with almost all of these items that were also confirmed by other contributors.

You get commisions as low as 10 cents and the occasional big sale is less frequent thant the occasional big sale on SS, for example. And sales in general are less frequent than what it use to be.

What content are you talking about here? RF/RM, editorial/news, photo/illustration?

109
I had commissions as low as 0.2$ with them, so even lower than the Shutterstock minimum and these small comissions for a few cents or few dollars are becoming more and more common.

Just curious, what were those commissions before? And are you still uploading?

Software / Re: FTPS upload to Shutterstock fron Java
« on: October 26, 2021, 05:50 »
But, I have got an issue with ftps and Shutterstock, seems to be ssl is not permitted in ssh (why do they not use sftp???).

If someone has got a solution?

You need to allow self-signed certificates (if you're using curl, then add --allow-insecure)

Hello folks

Just published an Alamy review over in Xpiks blog: https://xpiksapp.com/blog/alamy-review/

What was your experience with Alamy? I'd also be genuinely interested if there's anything missing in the blogpost. Please let me know!

Xpiks just got PNG support in version 1.7.0.4 and further. PNG support can be useful for Creative Market, Canva or Pixta.

The update will be available for everybody in a bit, but if you need PNG support now, you can download latest version from the website.

Software - General / Re: Fully automatic keywording in Xpiks
« on: October 06, 2021, 12:33 »
free version is limited to 5 photos keywording

This is not true. Free version has the limitation of 15 files opened at the same time. If you experience different behavior, please contact support. Currently I do not have information that other users are experiencing a similar issue.

Not sure what the value of this is.

The value is in:

a) choosing (or not choosing) general theme for your work (either photography, illustration etc.)
b) not targeting these specific keywords when doing keywording

117
reason not that there's no traffic, but that it's too late for xmas 2021 - ads starting in a few weeks, ad buys before that & design (ie, downloads) even earlier. time to start shooting for easter

No, it's no the case. It seems that you actually did not take a look at the keywords itself in the table below this sentence. Most keywords were broader topics related to winter and holidays, not Christmas. And actual statistics was aggregated over some time which definitely included time "6 months before Christmas". So the takeway is different from what you just said.

118
Hey folks

As a preparation to October stock photo ideas newsletter, I investigated Christmas as one of the topic. This led me to writing this short blogpost which, however, should be useful for contributors that are thinking what should they do for Christmas!

https://stockphotosideas.com/blog/christmas-photo-ideas/

Let me know what are you thoughts on Christmas? Have you already given up to find Christmas niches or you believe that they exist?

Hello folks

Black Friday is one of the topics in Stock Photo Ideas newsletter for September and as a side product, I can share investigation results on what content NOT to create (aka 'bad' ideas): https://stockphotosideas.com/blog/black-friday-photo-ideas/

There's not enough traffic and too much competition for each of these topics. Did you actually have success with any of them?

120
that's a great analysis, i like what you're doing there.

Thanks Gillian!

Software / Stock Photo Ideas newsletter price reduction
« on: July 28, 2021, 06:50 »
Hi all

After receiving a feedback from the microstock contributors community ("great content, but too expensive"), I decided to decrease prices for Stock Photo Ideas newsletter. I've heard that for many of you $9/month was too much and I still would like to enable contributors to create a better selling content.

https://stockphotosideas.com/

122
I like your ideas and methods, I can't afford to pay more a month than some agencies pay back.  ;) Especially since I'm cutting more and more of them for minimal payback for any work.

Do I understand? Green stars are the good ones? That would be these?

Your idea is Google Volume vs Existing results and then looking at SS traffic?

Knowing what sells is real and valuable, knowing what is searched is relative, but can't predict sales. Look at Alamy sales? You can see what has sold, but you still can't see what WILL sell in the future.

Hey Uncle Pete. First of all sorry for the late reply, I totally missed this post (does Microstock Group forum have email notifications?).

Secondly, good news is that Stock Photo Ideas became cheaper! I hope this will help you to make a right decision ;)

As for your other questions:
- green is a good one, yes
- I look first at Shutterstock Traffic + Existing results and only after on Google Volume. Google Search volume is general interest marker, but Shutterstock Traffic is way more specific
- I also fully agree with you that having internal Shutterstock sales data would create way better suggestions, but I truly believe that a) we will never have it and b) in the absence of it what I suggest is the 2nd best

123
I hate to be negative about someone's new project, but given the fact that this industry is paying less and less to the contributors I think that not many would spend $9 on a monthly subscription to boost their microstock business. Don't get me wrong the idea is good and I think you have the skills to be great at this.

Thank you for your feedback and for the good words. I would actually very interested to hear how much would you pay for such service?

I think the whole idea of what I'm doing is to make contributors earn more on the long run. Constantly producing content that will sell is much better than sometimes to produce content that is a best-seller, in my opinion.

124
As for low volume, low search - again, depends. Without corresponding sales data, hard to say whether or not it would be a good idea.

I fully agree that it depends. In general, I think, it's not a good idea, but I'm sure there are notable exceptions! Honestly would love to see those.

125
Of course, this is not even a beginning of August, but on Stock Photo Ideas calendar it's time for content analysis for 2 months in advance, which is October. And what holiday is more famous in October than Halloween? (of course, everything is relative since in Islam it is prophet Muhhamad's birthday which is the most famous in October)

Nevertheless, I just finished analyzing what content market is oversaturated with in Halloween niche. Here's the report: https://stockphotosideas.com/blog/halloween-content/

Have you created any Halloween backgrounds or shot kids or hands that were actually sold many times? Would love to see them!
