This is about using mobile phones for microstock instead of DSLRs, and submitting pics and videos taken by phone to all the main stock sites, not just to the sites specialized for mobile photography. So I wasn't sure where to post this - if GSD isn't considered good, somebody put this topic where it belongs the most.

Of course, DSLR is always going to provide higher quality and more possibilities than the best mobile phone camera because of more glass and larger sensor. But are the mobile phones of today good enough for microstock? If yes, then why don't invest in Google Pixel 2 or 3 (or whatever phone is the best or good enough for microstock) instead of investing in more expensive equipment, especially if you take into account that higher res and quality maybe doesn't sell more? It's also easier and more practical to take the phone with you wherever you go, plus it has a nice big screen.

Did anyone used Google Pixel or other phone successfully for producing images and videos which are accepted everywhere and which sell? And how are the sales comparing to the content produced with DSLRs?

Credit system or not, having live sales and stats is a must. The values can be adjusted latter if needed. The system has to be live and automatic. All other sites are live and automatic so there are no excuses.

103
It's laughable that we have to wait 20th of the month. I mean we do live in the 2nd decade of the 21st century, and the 3rd one is getting nearer.

We would do marketing like a typical stock agency and attract customers by having the best content from contributors. Giving contributors the ability to set prices should also mean that you can calculate your margins and make more money per sale on our site while potentially charging less.
That doesn't sound like much of a plan. 2 things:

1. Even if you do attract the best content and contributors, why do you think any buyer would go to you instead of keep going to Shutterstock, Istock, AdobeStock or even Dreamstime? How will they even find out about your agency? And the ones who do, how will they be convinced to come and buy stuff when they already have the best content available on mentioned agencies? Why is it so hard for many new agency founders to understand that getting buyers is not a piece of cake.

2. You thought that you just have to win over contributors and the rest will go smoothly. Just content in today's microstock will get you nowhere because it's already available, and contributors know that, so even if you have the best contributor platform ever, pretty much nobody will put their work there just because of that. One and only way to win over contributors is to present a strong marketing plan or background, not to build cool features. It's all about getting buyers, so you just have to have strong marketing. That's the very reason why agencies exist - they are supposed to have experts and funds to run a successful marketing campaign. Some original idea or feature for buyers wouldn't hurt either. Do you have any of those things? Since you've already said what's your plan, I guess you don't.

105
What do you mean by "run our own shop"? Hopefully not that we are supposed to get buyers, because if that is so easy, everybody would run their own site with success and the agencies would pretty much be out of job. If you just want to make a platform and not be an agency, 20% seems too much. Look at Picfair's deal as an example. And deal with the fact that there are not going to be much sales.

If you want to start an agency, marketing aka getting sales has to be your main strength, so that should be your top and almost only priority, not making the best contributor portal. If you need or want higher cut for that, that's not a problem as long as it's reasonable - from our point of view better 50% from decent sales than 80% from rare or no sales.

And to answer your question - only thing really missing from other platforms are more sales. We are into this to make money and to spend as little time as possible on the site, not to play with features. Just make simple but effective platform with good statistics.

106
On the one hand, I would like another successful stock site which would give us a good income.

But on the other hand, even with the best marketing, why on earth would anybody "buy their tokens"? You need some really blind trust or stupidity to just give some new agency your money for something which can easily be just imaginary / non existent. And if it's real, it's still 100% under this startup company's control. Why would anybody give their money for that? I know I wouldn't.

Adobe Stock / Re: Payout minimum reduced to $25
« on: December 13, 2018, 08:16 »
Great news.

But us who receive EUR would also like Payoneer, or converting or switching to USD in order to be able to use Payoneer. Will there ever be any EUR to Payoneer solution?

OneShamelessPixel.com would be appropriate name for this pathetic agency.

I'm glad that this pathetic luring attempt failed hard.

Now let's just leave all the Onepixel topics to die deservedly.

Do these people even realize how much they underrate our intelligence, or their heads are stuck up too deep in their asses?

111
So they want premium contributors, but instead of premium prices or at least regular ones, they are racing to the bottom. That's double devaluation. Congratulations to their team for such a brilliant idea I guess.

Why should I contribute to Onepixel ?

More income for Onepixel Contributors
Onepixel only sources content from a much lower number of stock contributors than other platforms, which is why the extra income generated by each Onepixel Contributor will be significantly higher.

Contributors who are approved early receive better indexation and promotion in the collection.

Industry standard commissions - 35%

They are new but they already treat stockers like tools with 0 IQ. They must think they are extremely smart. Tossers indeed...

Same with me - nothing appears for months.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Payment question
« on: August 18, 2018, 07:48 »
Earnings are calculated for each month. The catch is the same like on Shutterstock - you pay tax on sales made to US buyers. This is why your payment gets reduced for some amount.

^ +1nd, very informative.

Cutting the % and then saying money won't make as happy - that's epic  :o ;D :'(

Person who said that must be the snob with his head up in his ass. That person must think he is very smart.

116
More often then not, whenever some agency presents the "exciting news" it's actually bad for contributors, but they still tend to label it "exciting" like we are all a bunch of morons. What are the worst "exciting news" ever on any agency?

And were there ever some "exciting news" which are actually good for contributors?

117
Use Adobe Bridge.

Unlike Lightroom it keeps your keywords in the order you entered them (LR reorders them alphabetically) which is especially important for Fotolia / AdobeStock and maybe some other sites which gives more weight in the search engine to the 1st 7 or so keywords.

There is also no need to bother with online keyword suggestions - if you need just find a few most popular files similar to yours and check out keywords in there, enter them in Bridge and try to put 1st 7-10 by relevance and you're done - you don't have to bother with metadata in that file ever again. Just upload where you want.

Adobe Bridge is also good to use for viewing / working and organizing your files, it's more handy than Windows Explorer.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Wemark hows it going
« on: April 29, 2018, 12:19 »
I know. As I've said, submitting now is too early. The question is why they need the content now? Why they reward with 100% the content submitted until the May 1st? Why not until (much) latter?

More % to photographers as the main reason why the buyers should care? Most buyers don't care. At all.

But when I see their list of investors and advisers I must say this smells on money. Seems like they got marketing covered so the potential is definitely there.

Still, I think it's too early to submit work. They should prepare all the functions for contributors, including the payment system, and they should accept all rasters (not just photos) and vectors from the start. And we shouldn't wait who knows how long until the marketplace starts working.

And how can we withdraw dollars or euros to Paypal / Payoneer or our bank account?

I think you should enable converting Stocken to dollar / euro directly on your site.

edit: Also, I don't know who on Earth will be willing to buy Stocken. You would need a powerful marketing for that.

We are leaning towards the option to allow dollar conversions and withdrawals on our website for larger amounts only (e.g. above $100) available at any time. For smaller amounts, we will allow conversions to ethers, bitcoins and other major cryptocurrencies.
You will gain more contributors if you allow conversions and withdrawals for as low amount as possible. That's important, especially for a new site. Canva allows withdrawals from as low as $2.

Have they dropped the $2 fee for lower withdrawals?
No they didn't.

Bigstock.com / Re: Request for Sean L.
« on: March 13, 2018, 06:56 »
Semmick Photo said that he will post his code if he makes it work. Then he made it work but he didn't post the code. Very nice...

I'm not a coder so I can't follow Sean Locke's instructions. I tried to edit Sean Locke's script for the thumbnails on Canva but without success. Here is his script:
Code: [Select]
// ==UserScript==
// @name        CV_showThumbnail
// @namespace   canva
// @include     https://www.canva.com/sales*
// @version     1
// @grant       none
// ==/UserScript==

function showThumbs() {

var linkObjs = [];
for (var j= 0;j<document.links.length;j++)
if (document.links[j].hostname===location.hostname) {
str = document.links[j].href;
if (str.match(/media/g))
linkObjs.push(document.links[j]);
}
ajaxStream = new Array();

table = document.getElementsByClassName('list')[0];
thead = table.getElementsByTagName("tr")[0];
label = document.createElement('th');
thead.appendChild(label);
label.innerHTML = "Thumb";
label.setAttribute('width', "60px");

for (var j= 0;j<linkObjs.length;j++){
myDataUrl = (linkObjs[j].href);
// make a new ajax object
ajaxStream[0] = new ajaxObj();
// pass the url from the 'a' object in the child node, and the linkObj
ajaxStream[0].makeRequest(myDataUrl, linkObjs[j], addThumbnailImage);
}

tcell = table.getElementsByTagName("td");
for (var j= 0;j<tcell.length;j++){
if (tcell[j].innerHTML == "   Multi Use   ") {
tcell[j].style.backgroundColor = "#bbffbb";
}
}

}

function addThumbnailImage(text, status, elementToChange) {
if (text == "") return;
div=document.createElement('div');
  div.innerHTML=text;
var imgs = div.getElementsByTagName('img');
for (var j= 0;j<imgs.length;j++) {
if(imgs[j].id == "mainImage") {
tr = elementToChange.parentNode.parentNode;
td = document.createElement('td');
td.setAttribute('width', "60px");

tr.appendChild(td);
img = document.createElement('img');
img.setAttribute('width', "60px");

imgSrc = imgs[j].src.replace("screen","thumbnail");
img.setAttribute('src', imgSrc);
td.appendChild(img);
return;
}
}
}

window.onload = showThumbs();

function ajaxObj() {

this.requestObject;
this.elementToChange;
this.makeRequest = function(url, elementToChange, onResponse) {
// trying to stop weird exception
if ((url=="") || (url==null)) {
if (elementToChange)
elementToChange.innerHTML = ("<center>N/A | N/A</center>");
return;
}
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {                     // Does this browser have an XMLHttpRequest object?
this.requestObject=new XMLHttpRequest();                    // Yes -- initialize it.
} else {                                         // No, try to initialize it IE style
this.requestObject=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");  //  Wheee, ActiveX, how do we format c: again?
}                                                // End setup Ajax.
if (this.requestObject==null) {                                // If we couldn't initialize Ajax...
      alert("Your browser doesn't support AJAX.");  // Sorry msg.
      return false;                                  // Return false, couldn't set up ajax
    }
this.requestObject.onreadystatechange = function() {                      // When the browser has the request info..
    switch (this.readyState) {
case 1:
// if (elementToChange)
// elementToChange.innerHTML = ("Starting");
break;
case 2:
// if (elementToChange)
// elementToChange.innerHTML = ("Requesting");
break;
case 3:
// if (elementToChange)
// elementToChange.innerHTML = ("Processing");
break;
default:
      onResponse(this.responseText, this.readyState, elementToChange);             // Pass the response to our processing function
    }
}
this.requestObject.open("GET",url,true);
this.requestObject.send(null);
}
}

So can somebody make the script for BS and share it here?

Many thanks Dumc! And thanks to Sean Locke for the script.

here is the script: www.seanlockephotography.com/scripts/CV_showThumbnail.user.js

For everybody who don't already know this, you need to install Greasemonkey in the browser, and then visit this link and click install.
