I decided to write about a tricky subject – how to come up with ideas (and images) to illustrate things in the news. Interesting topic, I look forward to reading.

. I also had a surge in sales in the last few days, starting on Sunday. I don't know what SS is doing, but I was 1 download away from matching my best daily sales day yesterday. Today is also a big day and the day is not over yet. I've also experienced that lately. No SODs or enhanced though but a decent enough month, hopefully ending with a "golden key" (Brazilian expression)

Friends and family may consider purchasing a fine art wall-hanger via FAA. Tomato isolated...probably not.

Hi,
I can see you're thinking about different concepts and experimenting - great stuff. As Brighton has pointed out, need to focus more on the execution to improve your post-processing.
I would add that some of your editorials could easily be commercial. You seem proficient in PS so should be relatively straightforward to get rid of some people / signs, such as in this image and other similars.
Keep experimenting and submitting. Once you see an image is being downloaded regularly you can focus on creating some themes around those popular, continuously upping the technical standards.

Another question is that this image was RF, if i had it as RM you think the price would be the same or different, or it just dictates that with RF i can sell elsewhere if that makes sense. I believe that there's not a huge difference in royalties anymore between RF and RM on Alamy. In fact, a buyer may license a RF image as RM on a one-time basis. One of the biggest advantages of RM has traditionally been exclusivity but as Sue stated earlier: It very seldom happens that an Alamy buyer wants exclusivity. There's been quite a bit of discussion on the Alamy forum RF vs RM...you can find a recent thread here: http://discussion.alamy.com/topic/8433-rm-vs-rf-usageagain/?page=3

If I had it on shutterstock as well you think whoever bought it would look on shutterstock to get it cheaper? Yassou Dimitris! Congrats on the sale! Following on what Sue and Paul have stated, I'm not sure whether there would be substantial risk of a potential buyer going for a (generally) cheaper option on micros with that particular image. In other words, whether being exclusive on Alamy would yield a greater return over the image's lifetime. I have looked at the image in closer detail and although it's a nice moment, I wouldn't classify this image anywhere as close to "premium", so in my opinion, there's no harm in putting it everywhere and RF. I have put it as a close up on this message, I trust that is OK. You didn't ask for a critique so I won't offer one I'm leaning more towards Steve's way of thinking, although there will be images which I'll refuse to put on micros...perhaps I'm being stubborn and thinking with my ego, but I'll sleep well at night Hope you get some more sales and let's keep in touch. P.s. I see you have shot some airplanes landing. I have regular sales of these, more so on micros than Alamy.

Yes, I'm still waiting to find out if I made the cut. Me too. As far as I'm aware nobody has been accepted yet. Can anybody confirm this?

Two threads were started about me specifically this week.

Why don't we ditch this thread and start up a preliminary December 2017 thread? I agree. Let's move on from this raucous thread (of which I take some of the blame). You guys/gals are a lot of fun but there's much work to be done! I bid you a good day.

And just 'like that' he's gone again. The next alias will be #9 by my count. Looks like someone shot the Sheriff.

BTW, how'd you get permission to use that photo of Oringer in your book? Or is it available to license somewhere? Michelle, my dear, let's create beauty and inspire others, not get into petty lovers' quarrels. But seriously now, Sheriff and I both apologise for that initial thread. I hope you accept it and we can move on.

. Nice, hope you win. Thanks. I don't like to boast, but I had to here in my defence to the cliche of "those who can't do, teach" statement directly at me and fellow authors. At least we now have the Sheriff to lay down the law

Laurin Rinder gave me the attached quote about motivation and (personal) success in the Arts. He told me that it was handed down to him by his mentor/Art teacher at UCLA 35 years ago and he gives a copy to all his students.
The quote was written in 1939 By Martha Graham, the most famous choreographer ever to Agnes B Demille, who was also a huge supporter of the Arts.
I believe those words are still relevant today.
Thanks Laurin for sharing this with me.

I was recently in Florence, Italy and most of the editorials on there aren't that premium or unique. If there's one I would choose to place on Alamy as RM and exclusively it would be this one. Technically not the best since I cut some parts (tough angle) but the message is quite strong and unique, I believe.

When memakephoto said he could find the image on SS and Ft, I just took it at face value. Sorry, my fault for not checking. No worries

I'm suprised brasilnut put it on the micros, but it's his ball. I'd never put that image (or similars) at micros. I have made this sort of mistake in the past though, but they're no longer on there. Dec 16 is when they'll decide on the winners Not sure I would submit anywhere, even Alamy, when it's in a contest. The contest organizers retain the right to reproduce the image which may not be good if a buyer is looking for image exclusivity. TPOTY, reproduction rights & your copyright: TPOTY does not make any claim whatsoever on the copyright of YOUR images. The copyright will, at all times, be respected by TPOTY and retained by the photographer. Where an image or images are reproduced by TPOTY, the photographer will be credited. The organisers and sponsors reserve the right to free reproduction and exhibition of entered images in all media, but only in connection with these awards. A selection of the winning and other best images may be chosen for reproduction in TPOTY portfolio books, exhibition catalogue and TPOTY app. For compilation and retrospective books, TPOTY will seek the permission and agreement from photographers before inclusion of any image entered more than four years previously. We do not claim unlimited licence for TPOTY or its sponsors to reproduce your images outside of the terms set out above. Images included in all other TPOTY Collection of merchandise (cards, calendars, prints etc.) will subject to separate agreement with the photographer and a royalty will be paid. Where image reproduction is unrelated to the awards then permission and a fee will be agreed with the photographer in advance. ---- Reasonable terms above including in regards to royalties, although no mention of how much it would be (I suppose I would have to negotiate).

I find it on Shutterstock and Fotolia but can't find any reference to it being a finalist anywhere. It's on Alamy as RM, also on FAA. Where are you a finalist for travel photographer of the year? http://www.tpoty.com/judging/finalists2017Nevertheless, since you posted it, let me wonder: why it is much brighter around the camel than where the sun's reflection should be? I guess we all have some more learning to do about how to boost the shadows of a silhouette, without affecting the whole luminosity range and without making it look like the sun was added in post. Thanks for your input

Simplified: those who can't do microstock, write books about microstock. I don't need to do only Microstock or write books. I'm a finalist for "Travel Photographer of the Year 2017" - image attached.
